2023-24 NBA MVP Finalists Announced

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Apr 21, 2024 11:19 pm

The NBA announced the finalists for 2023-24 Most Valuable Player. The finalists are Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder and Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets.

Jokic is a two-time MVP, having been honored for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons. Jokic was the MVP runner-up to Joel Embiid for the 2022-23 season.

This is the first time Doncic or Gilgeous-Alexander have been finalists for MVP.

What does “being a finalist” mean?

Are people that voted for players not on the list asked to re-vote?

Or is this just a media thing, hinting at who the top vote-getters were before announcing the winner?

I think it’s the top three vote getters.

I’m pretty sure all the voting is done and sealed.

I heard on one of the games today by JJ Reddick said hes already turned in his votes so talking about DPOY further wont matter. Everyone's already voted. These are just the top 3 in that category. Winners potentially get a ton more money, example if luka got mvp he'd qualify for super max but he already is making nba 1st team so that wont matter for him for super max but it can for other players that hit the incentives

Why does it matter when the NBA is worldwide? The BEST should win no matter where he comes from.

Jalen Brunson, not being under consideration is another travesty.

1. In 2014, Jalen was named a member of the 2014 USA U18 National Team. With a perfect 5-0 record, the team went on to win the FIBA Americas U18 Championship gold medal and qualified the U.S. for the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship. In his campaign he averaged 12.0 points and a team second-best 5.6 assists per game.

2)USA BASKETBALL MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

3)NAMED MVP IN FIBA UNDER-19 WORLD CUP AFTER USA CLAIMS GOLD MEDAL, LEADING THE TEAM AVERAGING 5.6 ASSISTS & 2.1 STEALS
USA CLAIMS GOLD MEDAL IN FIBA AMERICAS UNDER-18
FIBA Americas U18
BREAKS USA BASKETBALL U18 SINGLE-GAME ASSIST RECORD WITH 13 ASSISTS AGAINST URUGUAY, PASSING STEPHON MARBURY’S 12 ASSISTS AGAINST BRAZIL IN 1994

4) 2x NCAA Champion @ Villanova

5)2023 Led a Luka=less Mavs to the Western Conference Finals.

6) Led the injury decimated New York Knicks to the 2nd seed in a highly competitive Eastern Conference.

The disrespect for this young man is beyond comprehension.

With the process selecting Jokic, Luka, and SGA ahead of him, I’d be worried about the limits of your comprehension.

You are so cringe. It's an NBA award. You going to cite his **** boy scout badges also?

We've known who the finalist would be since the day Embiid missed his 18th game.

Brunson and NYK had a great season. Everyone that voted considered Brunson... and ultimately went with a better player. He will be listed under "Also Receiving Votes."

You're a scrub on the Knicks board and now I see you are infesting the GB too.

Zenzibar wrote:Exactly and that brings me to an interesting observation.
We need a point guard and there are, according to the consensus here, 2 mayyyybeee 3 really good guards in the draft. Personally, I like Elfrid Payton over any of them. He's big, defensively tough and was possibly playing the best ball of his career at the end of the season, with a few big number triple doubles.

Zenzibar wrote:If Payton works and develops a 3 pointer, he'll be nice and ahead of the other flawed guards in this draft.

3toheadmelo wrote:You were literally telling everyone last season Elfrid Payton still has upside  someone even put it in their sig. Relax.

I mean, you can look at all the stats, roll them up and then wipe an ass with it. You know why? Because unless you're just too hard a hater, it has to be dam obvious how much better Payton is playing in the last month or so.

Now go back to your drawing board and show us a graph from December until now and without all your "homework" and with just paying attention it'll be obvious that Payton is improving.

It'll show a graph of Payton's number finishing at the rim, defensive rating and 3pt shooting for the last 3 months.

Nevertheless, Payton is not a finished product yet and unless the team moves him in a couple of weeks, I anticipate him trending upward with this coaching staff.

I just thought you were Elfrid Paytons grumpy dad, now I realize you are much greater than that. Jalen Brunson should be NBA MVP because of FIBA Under 18 Year Old Accomplishments.      You are a treasure.

Edit: Lollll that's the Haliburton draft you are opining on with your wisdom. :clown: :clown: :clown: :clown: :clown: :clown: :clown:
