Tyrese Maxey Named 23-24 NBA Most Improved Player

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Apr 24, 2024 1:25 am

Tyrese Maxey has been named the NBA's Most Improved Player for the 23-24 season.

Maxey’s scoring rose for the third consecutive year, and he finished the regular season averaging 25.9 points, 6.2 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game.

“It feels great,” Maxey said on the TNT broadcast where the award was announced. “Somebody like myself, who prides myself on putting in a lot of work and outworking people and finding ways to get 1% better every single time I step in the gym, it feels good for that to come to light, honestly.”

Maxey received just over half of the first-place votes.

Coby White finished second while Alperen Sengun was voted third.

The rest of the voting: Oklahoma City’s Jalen Williams was fourth, Jalen Brunson was fifth, Washington’s Deni Avdija sixth, Brooklyn’s Cam Thomas seventh, Orlando’s Jalen Suggs eighth, Indiana’s Tyrese Haliburton ninth, Phoenix’s Grayson Allen and Miami’s Duncan Robinson tied for 10th, San Antonio’s Devin Vassell and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander tied for 12th, and Indiana’s Aaron Nesmith was 14th.

I think this is well deserved. I never expected Maxey to jump this high in performance.

He was already good. Should have been Coby White.

He deserves it. Ima bulls fan and wished coby got it. But on a note that Maxey was already good is true. But he lost a former mvp and still got his team to the playoffs despite losing embid as well. For coby white case. He improved much more. 9.7 ppg to 19.1. That's Improvement. Assists went up by 3. Rebs went up. Bulls were 5-14 when lavine went down. His emergence changed everything. I feel like this the one season there should've been co winners.

This is pretty disingenuous. He improved his rebound rate, massively improved his assist rate, improved his block rate, reduced his turnover rate, winshares went up, VORP up, BPM up. His TS% is quite literally the only thing that suffered, which is pretty normal.

No, you just went analytics, and I'm not really into all that extra stuff. Those are justifications to give a player the money they are asking for.
