Jonny Gomes has decided to retire from baseball after 13 Major League seasons.
Gomes, 35, last appeared briefly in Japan and had been hoping to catch on with a Major League club.
Since his debut in 2003, Gomes has compiled a .242/.333/.436 batting line in just over 4,000 plate appearances.
