Rob Manfred Pressuring Indians To Get Rid Of Chief Wahoo Logo

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Apr 13, 2017 11:52 am

Rob Manfred is putting some pressure on the Cleveland Indians to get rid of their Chief Wahoo logo.

The logo has sparked debate for years and Manfred has been in talks with owner Paul Dolan about abolishing it.

Major League Baseball spokesman Pat Courtney said in a statement that league officials are confident about reaching a positive resolution.

"Thus far, there have been productive discussions with the Cleveland Indians regarding the Commissioner's desire to transition away from the Chief Wahoo logo," Courtney said. "We have specific steps in an identified process and are making progress."

Bob DiBiasio, Cleveland's senior vice president for public affairs, said Dolan and Manfred have had ongoing dialogue since the World Series last year.

Getting rid of the logo only?

Why aren't they talking about changing names as well? Or are they trying to generate a fan base in India?

Not only is the name "Indians" incredibly offensive, it is also incredibly ignorant, given that they are attempting to reference people that were in North America before European settlers, and not people from India. Just because Columbus and his crew were mistaken about where they landed, doesn't mean we still have to perpetuate that ignorance...

All true, but honestly who cares.
