Marc Guehi has informed Crystal Palace he will not sign a new contract, confirming his departure next summer when his deal expires in June. Manager Oliver Glasner made the announcement Friday, indicating the England international rejected Palace\'s contract offer. Guehi remains available for transfer in January or will depart as a free agent in summer, potentially attracting interest from Liverpool and other elite clubs.
\"I think Marc has already told us that he doesn\'t sign a new contract, so he will leave next year,\" Glasner said. \"The club wanted him to stay. They offered Marc a new contract. But he said, \'no, I want to make something different\'. And that\'s normal.\"
The Athletic reported in October that Liverpool is more likely to pursue Guehi next summer rather than January. His free agent status would allow him to command a significant signing-on fee.
Guehi came close to joining Liverpool on deadline day in September when Palace pulled the plug on a £35 million deal after failing to source adequate replacement coverage. The dramatic collapse reopened questions about the center-back\'s future at Selhurst Park.
Glasner expressed confidence in Guehi\'s commitment despite the failed move. \"I have no concerns at all about Guehi,\" Glasner said on September 26. \"I am convinced as long as Marc is playing for Palace, he will give 100 percent.\"
Newcastle United pursued Guehi throughout summer 2024, submitting four bids with the final offer valued at £65 million including add-ons. All bids were rejected by Palace.
Guehi\'s impending departure marks the fourth consecutive summer Palace will lose a key first-team player. Wilfried Zaha departed to Galatasaray in 2023, Michael Olise joined Bayern Munich in 2024, and Eberechi Eze moved to Arsenal this summer. Guehi joined Palace from Chelsea in 2021 and has appeared in all 12 matches this campaign.
