I've been looking forward to this match since they met nearly 2 weeks ago and Seattle ended up finishing with only 7 players on the field. I'm certainly glad this game is being played in Portland instead of Seattle. That could have been ugly!!! The Timbers need to put on a better show than they did against the Galaxy a few days ago. That was beyond ugly. I believe Seattle will be without their 2 starting forwards so we'll see what they can bring. The Timbers need to be hungry and need to do enough to put that Galaxy game behind them and the rest of us.

Sucks not winning two on the trot. Moving forward we play FC Dallas, who are very competitive, likely without Will Johnson. A key match against RSL when it comes to keeping that playoff buffer in tact. San Jose are worrying. And I think Colorado could go on a tear second half of the year.

If you all want to see MLS soccer at its finest, the biggest rivalry in MLS is on ESPN today at 1:30pm PST/4:30pm EST. The most fierce rivalry in MLS and guaranteed to be a HUGE crowd up in Seattle with die-hard passionate fan bases.

That was horrible defense on that first goal by Seattle.

Every Cascadia team is sitting in a playoff spot right now though, so we could be in for a wild Playoffs.

One can only hope because a Portland-Seattle matchup in the playoffs is the best way to attract new fans if they get it in the national spotlight.

PORTLAND TIMBERS vs. COLORADO RAPIDS
Providence Park, Portland, Ore.
October 25, 2015 (WEEK 33, MLS Game #339)
7 pm ET (MLS LIVE/ESPN3)

Now controlling their own destiny, the Portland Timbers will look to ensure their place in the Audi 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs on Decision Day when they take on the Colorado Rapids at Providence Park on Sunday afternoon. The Timbers made a big step toward securing a place in the top six in the Western Conference with their 5-2 victory at the LA Galaxy last weekend; now they’re in a position where they can finish anywhere from second to sixth in the division with a win or a draw. The Rapids are simply playing for pride as they bring down the curtain on their 2015 campaign, putting an end to a long winless run at midweek with a 2-0 victory at Sporting Kansas City which had huge implications for the playoff race.

PORTLAND TIMBERS vs. SPORTING KANSAS CITY
Providence Park, Portland, Ore.
October 29, 2015 (2015 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs, Knockout Round)
10 p.m. ET (UniMás in US, TSN in Canada, KMCI-38, ROOT Sports NW)

Perhaps the hottest team in MLS faces one of the league's most consistent clubs when the Portland Timbers host Sporting Kansas City on Thursday night in the Knockout Round of the Audi 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs. Portland have won three consecutive games to earn home-field advantage, while Sporting Kansas City needed a second-half game-winner against the LA Galaxy on Sunday just to ensure their fifth consecutive postseason appearance. Both teams will be looking to recapture their playoff form of 2013, when Sporting Kansas City beat the New England Revolution and Houston Dynamo to reach the MLS Cup final, which they hosted and won over Real Salt Lake on penalty kicks. Portland beat rivals Seattle Sounders that year but fell to RSL in the Western Conference Championship. This is only Portland's second trip to the MLS Cup Playoffs in their five-year history, while Kansas City are making their 14th appearance in 20 seasons.

Playoffs start tonight for the Timbers!!!

I'm really hoping we pull it off in Vancouver and face Seattle in the Western Conference finals...and that they don't do something stupid like schedule it on a second or third tier sports network with a big sporting event scheduled at the same time on a major network. Would be awesome to get it on ABC or something on a Friday night.

What is the format for the playoffs? If the two teams tie the second match, do they just go overtime right then? It's an odd format.

Yup, 30 minutes of overtime if the score remains 0-0.

Then penalty kicks after that to determine a winner.

If the score is tied 1-1 though Portland would win on away goals.

The Conference Semifinals and Conference Finals are conducted in a home-and-away, aggregate-goal format. The team that scores the most goals in the home-and-away series advances to the two-game, total-goals Conference Finals or single-game MLS Cup Final, respectively. Since 2014 the away goals rule is used. In both rounds the lower-seeded team hosts Game One and the higher-seeded team Game Two. If the teams are tied after two games (180 minutes) in the Conference Semifinals or Finals, the team which scored more goals away from home advances. If there is still a tie after the away goals rule is applied, a 30-minute overtime period (divided into two 15-minute periods) will be played followed by a penalty kick shootout, if necessary. The away goals rule does not apply to goals scored in the overtime period.

ONE GAME AWAY FROM THE MLS CHAMPIONSHIP CUP FINAL!

The Portland Timbers are within 90 minutes of their first MLS Cup appearance following last Sunday’s 3-1 win over FC Dallas. Backed by a capacity crowd under the floodlights at Providence Park, the Timbers received goals from two unlikely sources – defenders Liam Ridgewell and Nat Borchers. Ridgewell potted his first goal of 2015 in the 23rd minute (watch here) before Borchers scored his first playoff goal in 12 years – the longest stretch between playoff goals in MLS history – in stoppage time to give Portland a critical insurance goal (watch here). Dairon Asprilla stole the show with an unbelievable strike from 30 yards out (watch here) that may top Juan Agudelo’s bicycle kick as the goal of the playoffs. Portland didn’t miss a beat without midfielders Diego Valeri and Rodney Wallace, both of whom missed Sunday’s match due to yellow-card suspension but will be available for selection this weekend. With that duo back in the fold, the Timbers could be Cup Bound & Down come Sunday night.

Although FC Dallas return to Frisco facing a two-goal deficit, the team’s resilient performance in the conference semifinal shows they cannot be counted out yet. Dallas have not lost at Toyota Stadium since Aug. 15 and finished the regular season with an MLS-best 13 home wins. However, the Timbers have not lost a road match since Aug. 30 and finished the regular season tied for an MLS-best seven road wins. Dallas will have to channel their youth and come out swinging in Sunday’s second leg. Mauro Díaz submitted another masterful performance in the Leg 1 loss (watch assist; watch pass), and Dallas will lean on him, Fabián Castillo and goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez to spearhead a comeback. Dallas, like the New York Red Bulls, will look to become the first MLS team to overcome a two-goal deficit entering a second leg since the Kansas City Wizards in 2004. Unlike the Red Bulls, Dallas enter the second leg with an away goal.

Who's excited for tomorrow's game?
