Serbia did better without Jokic. Greece does better without Giannis.

You think Greece would have performed worse with Giannis this year? I think he played great last summer. That quarter final was maybe the best game Germany has played in years, including this world cup.

Germany, Canada and Latvia went up big time. I think Latvia really surprised. They should've been disappointing without Porzingis. Olympics should be competitive next time around. Really want Giannis and Jokic to play, in all honesty.

Because we had much better back court this year than the last year. Bogdanovic, Jovic and Avramovic were enormous upgrade over Micic and Jaramz. Jokic will make this team 50% better if he decides to play next summer. Jokic was little to blame for the last year failure.

For the 30 or so years prior to Giannis joining the Greek NT, they were always ranked between 3rd and 10th in the world, and were most of the time ranked in the top 4-6. Now, after all these years with Giannis, they are down to 14th..............

So for Canada? Would you also “blame” their rise in rankings to their NBA players? Just wondering…

One bronze medal and they have jumped to 6 spot, where they were last ten years  Why is Australia above Serbia, what did they accomplish in the last ten years too :-? The USA didn't win the medal in either World Cup or U19 WC this summer. What is FIBA criteria for the rankings anyway :-?

Doesn't matter, remember that only NBA players count? According to the vast majority of the forums, someone like Avramovic is a scrub that plays in the joke rec league, where the best player is worse than any player that ever played in the NBA.

Ratings should be based on the performances at the major competitions, continental and the world championships, Olympics.Give me a break, they are valuing qualifications where the best players are not participating and for an example who is Australia playing to qualify for the major major competitions, New Zealand :-? FIBA is just awful in almost everything.

Well to Canada, they didn't just win bronze, they also beat Spain and USA along the way, the current top 2 teams, as well as France, Latvia and Slovenia, while teams like France, Argentina, Slovenia and Italy fell pretty hard because of losses.

So at the time they beat 4 of the 7 top ranked teams with Argentina not even being there, and being the World Cup has the most weight, it gave them a good boost.

Also, France, Lebanon, Latvia (who I remind you finished 5th), Spain, Brazil, Slovenia, Serbia, and USA is a hell of a schedule.

They should still rank the teams according their final standing in the tournaments . Who they were facing earlier in the group stage, or in the elimination games shouldn't matter.

Exactly the point. Our Euro fanboy's logic is that Greek was hurt by Giannis (NBA player) but couldn't say the same and use the same logic for another squad that featured multiple NBA players and their impressive rise in the FIBA rankings (flawed but hey, he used that for his argument).

Greece finally got a real coach. They hired Spanoulis. About damn time. Should help with Giannis also, as they are good friends and played together.
