Olympiakos is targeting Nate Robinson

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Tue Jul 14, 2009 4:08 am

Apparently Olympiakos is targeting Nate Robinson with a boatload of cash (use your Google translator to read it). As they did a season ago with Josh Childress, the Greek team is hoping to sign Robinson as another ticket-seller, who would easily be a bigger star there.

According to the story -- loosely translated -- Olympiakos may also consider a run at Ramon Sessions, who is a restricted free agent with the Bucks.

European teams can sign restricted free agents from the NBA with no compensation. But the NBA team does maintain the player's rights.

The Knicks might actually have no problem with Robinson taking the Greek offer, mainly because not have to pay him and still could use him as a trade asset. Coincidentally, Robinson has been in Europe making appearances at basketball camps. He is an immensely-popular NBA player who might be the type to strike it rich in Europe as a fan attraction. But he is also the type that would likely prefer to remain in the NBA.

Money, of course, does talk.

Donnie Walsh hasn't expressed too much concern about the talks with Robinson's agent, Aaron Goodwin, but he did seem somewhat agitated with the uncertainty involving David Lee's situation. Walsh said he has talked financial parameters with Lee's agent, Mark Bartelstein, but clearly Bartelstein's target is a lot higher than what Walsh is willing to give. Link

They're targeting Ramon Sessions as well.

Hopefully this is the beginning of NBA players going over to Europe frequently.

I like Sessions more for them than Nate. Nate is more talented with better range but much more shot happy than Sessions who i feel that he is the better PG from those 2

childress can't find a better contract in the NBA. Rumors about another NBA level american playing for Olympiacos are created just to give reporters a reason to exist.

taking that as a fact. I think nate would make a nice fit for olympiacos as they need a speedy gonzales style playmaker to run the floor and give childress some easy points on transition.

Nate would only make Olympiakos more money considering how exciting he is to watch. Ramon on the other hand needs to develop some range and there is less money to profit off him.

Wasn't this the topic of discussion last summer: Players will start shunning the NBA for the Euroleague to make a quick buck. Well, it hasn't happened, not even close. Childress, Robinson, and Sessions are just average players, if that. Until top-tier NBA players start making the jump overseas while still in their prime, the Euroleague will remain an after-thought.

They should rather sign Terrell McIntyre for less money than him in my opinion.

I agree with apollo64 on that one. Problem is that siena's owner is asking for 2 mil just to set him free.
Listen to this one: ERA basketball radio show mentioned today that Olympiacos is running down Andre Miller! This I gotta see!
I personaly know that Olympiacos' owner's financial manager @ Chalyvourdiki (hellenic steel) wont let them spend that kind of cash this year. I can't document this so for what it's worth....

Olympiacos is always supposed to be targeting some big names... but in the end they always get too many of those and the result isn't worth the investment they make.

They're also targeting David Lee.

According to the Greek media those are rumours spread by Lee's agent and Olympiacos has no interest whatsoever.
