Re: Off Topic V
Some, uhm, mod suspended Kemba on general board (Valanciunas hype type of thread). Basically for nothing. GB is getting even more ridiculous.

Re: Off Topic V
It's a shame. I'm really starting to hate the over-moderation on the GB. I've had to hold back a few hilarious responses to stupid people.
qft because this is what the GB has turned into.KembaWalker wrote:Yuri Vaultin wrote:KembaWalker wrote:this thread will go well
What a wonderful contribution. You were almost able to derail it with the very first post after the OP. Please, either add to the thread or don't bother posting at all.
On topic: He has an amazing motor, work ethic and all the physical tools to succeed at this level.
its not even a thread its just a blog article he ripped off another website and posted here with no actual discussion. get over it. if it wasnt about a player you liked you'd have locked it

Re: Off Topic V
this is how the GB is being run at the moment. Mods will act swiftly and aggressively as they try to change the standard of posts.
we all know the usual lunacy that always existed on the GB, they seriously considered shutting it down for a while.
This isn't a comment on Kemba's suspension but more a warning to tread carefully on the GB.

Well that mod surely derailed the thread much more by that. Not like it would take another route and produce thoughtful discussion anyway. Kemba was called idiot by another poster after that suspension and that went unnoticed. Not seeing how that helps with dealing with lunacy. So far it only prvents free speech. It is similar to points Rowan Atkinson raised recently.

Considering Kemba has a history of derailing threads with "observations" I think I was in the right. This is not his first, second or third infraction... (all from different mods I may add and all in less than 1 year). His only intent was to derail any and all discussion in the thread and dismiss any points in the article because it was about a Raptor player as more or less pointed out by this:
its not even a thread its just a blog article he ripped off another website and posted here with no actual discussion. get over it. if it wasnt about a player you liked you'd have locked it
This was an opinion piece on yahoo that a poster shared to start discussion. I would not have locked it if it was about another player on another team - that was a complete assumption on Kemba's part.
We welcome all posters to join the discussion on the GB - all we ask is that you treat posters and fans of other teams with some respect and if you post, do so in a respectful manner.
Also, if you see something on the GB that you feel crosses the line like the idiot comment please hit on the ! button to report it. You've been around long enough to know how to do that right?
And with regards to free speech - we try to rid the board of racists, trolls any one else whose sole reason to post is to disrupt intelligent discussion - so if that means you think of us like the Gestapo, then so be it.
There is a thread on the feedback forum that I invite any all posters to add their 2 cents in with regards to this suspension.
Cheers,
Yuri Vaultin

free Kemba
iirc there used to be rules against just copy and pasting articles without providing an ounce of discussion or input about it. that was clearly personal.
for example
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1208534
gets locked and told to go to Rookie thread, but Valanciunas future superstar thread is kept open and admanatly defended by Raptors mods handing out weak suspensions.
GB quality continues to head to the dumpster

Terrible example. One thread is based on the writings and opinion of an actual person employed to report on sports and the other is simply a thread about Waiters sucking. That is like comparing a thread based on a Bill Simmons article about Kyrie Irving being the real deal to one started by you about how you think Tristan Thompson sucks balls while not putting it in a thread called "Thoughts on Second year bigs".
We welcome all feedback - as we want to make this site better. Please feel free to message Howard Mass, post on the feedback forum or approach a Global Mod or mod on the Bobcats Forum with your concerns.

Props to Turbo_Zone for the sig.

Re: Off Topic V
it doesnt matter...its general accepted practice that non-news rookie related threads are locked and told to go in the megarookie thread. whenever there are threads that are going to be locked, its usually a free for all for posters to say whatever they want, even if its off topic. you and i both know i could find plenty of examples of that. at worst, Kemba is a victim of inconsistency in moderation. a warning would have sufficed. a suspension is just unfair.

Comments like Kemba's come up in almost every thread. Either let them slide (or at most give a warning) or suspend everyone who makes posts like this (which quite honestly would be pretty far over the top). All we want is some form of consistency. I really don't think that's too much to ask.

gary payton wants to start a camp to teach NBA players how to play defense. i dont know about you, but i would pay 30 bucks on PPV to watch that.

And finally, here’s what former nine-time NBA All-Defensive Team selection Gary Payton had to say to Ed Odeven of the Japan Times about the mindset of current NBA players regarding playing defense, and the possibility of starting a camp to teach defensive skills to current players: ” ‘I can get 35 and you get 30 and I won. It doesn’t equal out to me,’ (Payton) told Hoop Scoop. ‘To let somebody get 30 points on you, and you feel good because you got 35 on them, that’s not good for me, you know what I’m saying? If I get 35, I want him to get 12 or 14 because that means I’ve done something. I’ve done my job. I went out there and played hard and did what I had to do. I’ve been thinking about doing that and I think guys would come to the camp, and I think I would get the guys who have that tough mentality to say, ‘yeah, I want to buckle down and do this.’ It would be good if I can get it started but my main concern is I would have to have guys who want to be dedicated to do that. I don’t want to waste my time.”

Re: Off Topic V
that suspension is some of the weakest stuff I've ever seen in my life. The mod getting all salty because people don't want the 1,000th Valunicainadasdaszou thread where Raptors fans call the dude a mix between Tim Duncan and Achilles. These mods all have glass faces, they read one bad thing and they start catching feelings like a girl on her first period. Celtics vs. Heat fans can cry for 4 pages back and forth in a completely unrelated thread but hurt one of the mods favorite players and see ya in 2 weeks. That's messed up

Re: Off Topic V
I mean, there is definitely a mixed message sent when the moderator spearheading the suspension discussion (regardless of whether or not he's the individual responsible for the punishment) invites disgruntled posters to leave feedback and the thread gets locked up by the big man in charge.
I know the GB is a chaotic place and I don't envy any of those moderators, but this is a poor decision. I know they want to raise the level of discussion and it's hard to be consistent with punishment when there are so many moderators (out of necessity), but man. Suspension over that? "Derailing" a thread that probably should've just been a post in the rookie impressions thread? Certainly makes me gun shy about posing instead of lurking on the GB.
