NBA2K12 Thread

Post#1 » by BigSlam » Thu Jul 21, 2011 3:58 pm

I was looking for the release date (and if there would even be one) and came across this:

NBA 2K12 Cover Adds Magic and Bird to Michael Jordan

It would be pretty freaking sweet if they added the "Magic Challange" and the "Bird Challenge" to the "Jordan Challenge" they did last time.

Be even better if they had a piece where Bird walks into a room of guys just before the three point shoot out and says "ok then, which one of you mother******* is coming in 2nd?"

Cool! Now they need Bill Russel and Kareem to round out the top 5...

Imagine that starting 5?

I'm actually surprised there will even be a NBA2K12 considering the lockout. I mean, I guess they have to move forward with pre-production, but if the lockout is still on they couldn't release the game - could they?

I imagine the players would be paid a royalty and because the game is NBA branded I assume it wouldn't hit the shelves until the new CBA is in place?

I imagine if there isn't an agreement before 2k12's pressing, we'll get generic names like 2k did with College Hoops.

2k should use the lockout as a chance to revive college hoops

It will hit the shelves regardless.

It 100% will not be on the shelves regardless.

The NBA doesn't even have pics of players on the NBA website at the moment. You really think they are going to allow the players to use their likeness in a video game that is stamped by the NBA?

I also wonder if the $$$$ generated from the sale of these video games are some how tied into BRI - which is obviously a massive talking point with the new/old CBA.

2K has separate licenses from the NBA and the players association. The lockout shouldn't affect anything. The NBA may not have a deal to use player likenesses right now but 2K has agreements from both sides.

I doubt they are tied into BRI; I would assume 2K pays royalties to both sides individually.

Won't happen. The problem with College Hoops (and the EA version) is that the games did not sell. NCAA licensing is probably more expensive than NBA licensing and when you don't sell nearly as many copies, production is cut.

NCAA football sales are still good because many people buy it to get a head start on Madden. That wasn't the case with the college basketball games.

Just kind of depends. They'll resign the vast majority for similar contracts to what they have and just wait till they learn more to update it.

The only thing I want out of the next NBA 2K is more vintage teams. Per example, one per franchise. So every franchise would have their greatest team. Run TMC, 01-02 Kings, late 80s Nuggets, mid 90s Rockets etc.

The game comes out Oct. 4th. Funny you mention those teams because if you pre-order you will get that 90-91 Run TMC Warriors and the 01-02 Kings.

The game is 100% coming out and will have player names btw in case that wasn't made clear. The inclusion of the rookies is the only thing I'm not sure of. We have some kind of 2K12 mod that checks this board. He'd probably know if there has been any news on the inclusion of the rooks.

Edit: I'm reading that once drafted the rookies are officially part of the players association and can be included. Contracts don't matter.

screw a current NBA2k, just make a retro version for this year that includes one great team per franchise and throw them all in a season vs each other.

here are my teams for each franchise

atlanta - 1987 dominique in his prime
boston - 1986
charlotte - 2007, only for walter herrmann
chicago - 1996
cleveland - 1992
dallas - 2011
denver - 1985, english, natt, issel and lever
detroit - 1989, bad boys better than boring larry brown team
golden state - 1991, run tmc
houston - 1986, i think the 86 team could beat the 94-95 teams. playing as twin tower certainly more fun
indiana - 2005, play as the jax oneal artest team that got suspended.
la clippers - 1992, most talented team, but not the best (2006) or most fun (2001), danny manning pre injuries
la lakers - 1985? 1987? the pinnacle of showtime. much more fun that the 1972 and shaq kobe teams.
memphis - 2011
miami - 2011 or 2006?
milwaukee - 1986. 83-86 take your pick. all better than the 2001 team
minnesota - 2004
nets - 2002, unless we count ABA, in that case 1976 with prime dr j.
new orleans - 1993 all for a young lj
new york - 1973 or 1970, not sure which team was better. before my time.
sonics/thunder - 1996, better than the 79 team
orlando - 1995
philly - 1983. moses and dr j!
phoenix - 1993 probably best team but 2005 certainly most fun, take your pick
portland - 1977 because playing as walton in his prime would be way too much fun
sacramento - 2002, redemption time
san antonio - 2005? do you want the team with the best duncan 03, the best parker 07, the best manu 05 or the best robinson 99?
toronto - 2001? i guess people want to play as prime vince rather than bosh
utah - 1997
washington - 1978

Would the world end if teams with the same player faced up against eachother (ex. 76 Nets and 83 76ers)?

As much as I liked run TMC, I would love to play the Warriors with Timmy, Sprewell, Mullin, Webber and Seikely. On paper they were a great starting 5, pity they couldn't put it all together.

That was the first NBA team I ever followed/supported.
