i thought it would be cool to have a thread dedicated to discussing games that dont involve the bobcats, rather than posting them in the OT thread. sound good?

i missed most of the xmas day games, but i made sure to watch the one that interested me the most, golden state vs clippers.

congrats to mark jackson. he figured out a way to make the warriors boring on offense.
klay thompson looks awful. i hope its just rookie nerves.
biedrins and jordan looks like chandler clones (the good one) tonight. jordan has 5 blocks at the half and 6,6 and 3 blocks at the half.
both teams shooting less than 40%, paul 1-6, just ugly stuff all around.
billups was a massive pick up. he is better suited as a sg at this point in his career.

I think the NBA would rather just show these teams (playing on Christmas) the rest of the year and forget about the rest of the teams in the NBA. Its pretty clear they are only showing Golden State here because they needed another west coast team besides Lakers/Clippers for Late Nite TV and because Mark Jackson is the coach... its pretty sad how they are overmarketing and hyping the Clippers in this game and in all media coverage when the Warriors are actually winning the game. I didn't watch a single minute all day until just now before halftime of the Warriors/Clippers game, and 5 minutes was enough. Besides the Warriors I cannot stand any of these teams that played today and won't watch a minute of them (that don't involve the Cats) all season.

/end rant.

its nothing new though coolio. its been this way for as long as i can remember. every year, since the tnt days started in the 80s the nba picks about 8 teams and they run them into the ground to the point that i cant stand to watch a nationally televised game until playoff time. nbatv and league pass saved it to a point. nbatv usually does a pretty good job of at least showing random games that dont involve 2 of the 8 teams playing each other.

i wasnt sad about missing the other 4 games today, but this one i definitely wanted to watch.

looks like i was praising billups as a sg too soon. now he just looks like a gun out there. paul needs to put billups back in his place, fast.

in a way, i kinda feel bad for kwame from a basketball standpoint. he had to take the money that the warriors offered, even if it was one year. but he will never ever find a coach or a team that was more willing to embrace him as a player, give him minutes and shots and make him look good than the bobcats........... and i bet, deep down, he knows that. im still rooting for him though.

I read an interview with Billups where he talked about being picked up by the Clippers and he said a lot of negative things. First he was thinking "Why are they getting in my way?" He said how he has bought in but complained about playing shooting guard as he considers himself a point guard only and likes always being bigger than his opponent. He's put it on them to find a way where he still plays a lot of point guard.

Could be a headache for them. Surprised they didn't just go after someone like Stephenson who plays tough defence and can hit the occasional shot.

Bulls played great defense in crunch time. I like how Rose says in interview about winning shot that his teammate gave him chance to have that opportunity and mentions previous defensive play and praise Deng for the steal while Rose himself helped to cause the bad pass by setting a trap.

KG is a punk. Xmas time nonetheless. I hope for suspension for the choke-punch. I also picked up Bass in my fantasy league already :-) (I was asleep for Orlando game so Ryan A. wasnt an option and Swedd picked him up).

saw this on the early games. i was initially psyched that the 'cats some exposure. silly me.

the bit that morphed all the old stars with the new ones was pretty cool though. while i agree with the casual fan marketing frustration, they probably do a better marketing job than the other leagues. Granted, the NFL could probably fire their marketing departments and there would be no drop off.

I watched all of the games yesterday except for the Magic/Thunder game. Some pretty good games other than the Heat blowout. Clippers game was pretty close until they pulled away in the 3rd. Most of the games were sloppy though as expected.

As for the NBA's marketing. I think it's fine. They just market their stars and the teams that people want to see. They are just feeding the beast. All people care about is lakers, heat, knicks, c's, etc etc etc. That's what they give them. As a long time Charlotte NBA basketball fan, i've come to grips that no one cares about small market teams, especially when they aren't winning or have star players. They just air the teams that yield the most ratings, plain and simple. I've come to grips with that. The only way the smaller market teams will get more coverage is if they win or people think they will win a lot. We will see more clipper games on TV this year than ever.

All of the games yesterday looked like the 3rd game of the preseason to me. They all looked like they met their teammates the day before. I think it's gonna be a weird season, I predict a lot of upsets in the playoffs as teams figure everything out late in the year.

I did suspect that the Mavs could start off slow and that the chemistry might not be there with all the personnel changes, but wow - they're being blown out once again. Down by 30 against Denver.

In 3 1/2 quarters of basketball the Hornets only have 7 assists........................AS A TEAM!!

They have 28 made baskets, but only off 7 assists.

Team basketball = over rated.
