Gonna Fly Now - the Jeff Adrien Thread

Post#1 » by catch20two » Sun Dec 9, 2012 6:25 am

There's word on the net that we are calling up PF Jeff Adrien from the D-League. He was averaging 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers through 5 games. I remember Adrien from his UConn days as a slightly undersized but tough rebounder and hustle guy that could finish down low. I got a feeling that Kemba might have played a role in this somehow as well.

sounds like the one thing he can do is rebound.

we apparently signed him earlier in the year, did he play preseason?

More importantly this is what a lot of us wanted the Bobcats to do by trying out players from D league etc.

Draft express gave him a good writeup.

Adrien did not look out of place in the 15 games he played with the Warriors in the NBA to start this season, something that definitely bodes well for him looking forward. He saw some solid rotation minutes in competitive situations and emerged as one of the best rebounders in the league in the admittedly small sample size. With the way undersized, high-energy power forwards are performing these days in the NBA, teams won't be as hesitant to give him a call-up as they might have been in the past.

Considering the way he's producing, it's likely only a matter of time until Adrien is signed by someone. If given an opportunity to play, there's a pretty good chance he will stick around based on what we've seen and heard.

Wonder if this means we are moving someone or simply going to do a buyout of someone? Or we may just have room available for another warm body on the bench.

We have a spare roster spot to fill.

I like this move. Much rather see some hungry D-Leaguer crash the boards and make mistakes due to inexperience than the seemingly invisible Warrick.

His last game on Thurs against a team that featured Daniel Orton & Perry Jones, Adrien went ham to the tune of 23 pts 15 rebs and looked like a man amongst boys.

I like this move from the standpoint that he addresses a need on the team for a tough customer down low, someone to do the dirty work.

If our GM was thinking more long term I might rather see him make a play for Henry Sims. Sims is 6'11 245 only 22, is avg 16/6 and showing what everyone likes about his game, a high BBIQ as an excellent passer. Seems like a no brainer as a free agent call up, though, while he is not assigned to the Erie Bayhawks by the Knicks, Erie is the D League Affiliate of the Knicks, for whom Sims played pre-season, so I wonder if he's got some sort of promise from NYK that makes him not really available.

For the short term I think Adrien's toughness could really help our team (though shortness might be his shortcoming), and I'm excited the team is finally using that final roster spot to look for a bruiser.

"Yo, Adrien!"

this is what we have all been screaming for... even if this doesnt pan out its the type of move we should be making. this is much better than bringing in a retread like jamario moon last year. lets see what this guy can do. he cant be worse than warrick and diop. its impossible.

well done

and yes, he was in our training camp, preseason, but didnt play in any games. so at least he is already familiar with our system and players.

this gives us 3 uconn players on the current roster. now we really need to trade for lamb and possibly bring donyell marshall out of retirement.

The link says he's 6'7". Which is still undersized, but yeah thought I'd mention that.

Was hoping we'd pick up a big man that wasn't Chuck Hayes short, but hey, can't ask for much more. Warrick is arguably doing less than Carroll was, and Adrian is a solid rebounder. I guess it works out. Plus Higgins is out!!! Hopefully this pisses off the other Higgins enough to make him quit.

Say what you want about Rod Higgins, but he did bring in Rich Cho.

To be fair, some of the best rebounders in NBA history has been considered undersized. Elgin Baylor, Charles Barkley, & Dennis Rodman were all listed at 6'6" while the current modern day rebounding stalwarts in Kevin Love & Kenneth Faried only stand at 6'8". It might be a science to getting boards that don't require being 7-feet tall

KLove is 6'10", but it's offset by the fact that he has almost no elevation. The guys you listed are all strong legged guys who can get the box out and leap in the same play, and it sounds like that's something this Adrien fella can do too :)
