ahh... imo, more emcees/producers could try this method of just rhyming over the actual track instead of sampling a loop of it. although I don't know whether anyone could pull it off as good as Ghost can. the energy at the end of the second verse he has... damn. I love how you can feel that he has put his soul in to the track.

I'm more of a Stephen Jackson "Cars & Clothes" listener myself.

lamar - i have been trying to find some tracks online from an obscure 90s hip hop band from Vermont, which was half rap, part jazz, part rb, complete with horns, backup singers. i saw them a few times in the 90s. they have two albums, charlie's dream and inhibitions. i have both, but now they are basically impossible to find.

lyrics are a little cheesy, but musically, they stick it.

anyway, here ya go
https://myspace.com/belizbeha/music/son ... 53-9996037
this one has a sweet jazz breakdown 4 mins in. definitely worth listening to

https://myspace.com/belizbeha/music/son ... 8-56201834

https://myspace.com/belizbeha/music/son ... 54-9996038
sometimes the girls sing, no rap, just nice 90s rb. i love this song. another sweet jazz/horn breakdown in the middle.

in concert they would alternate between rap songs with the rapper fatty b, and rb with the girls singing, and one of the girls was pretty damn hot back then. kinda like brand new heavies with the girls are singing.

from the 2nd album
https://myspace.com/belizbeha/music/son ... 49-9996033
such a tasty groove

https://myspace.com/belizbeha/music/son ... 3-56201568
a 90s dance rb tune

I finally remembered to reply to you. They sure are obscure, even their discogs page seems a bit dead. Will give them a listen over the weekend when I have the time to do so.

Lost the great Crusader, Joe Sample, this week. Seminal figure in the transition from acoustic to electric jazz. RIP.
