Anyone know when the team USA scrimmage is? I thought it was tonight. I was wrong.

Ha, I told Slam a week or two ago Melvin Ely would be our third center. I definitely see it happening now.

I wouldn't mind Hilton. I remember him being a good shotblocker in college.

and Mullens is out of the league.

He really is an odd one. How many players can record five 20/10 games in a season and be out of the league 2 seasons later while not being able to blame injury/age?

I understand his downfalls, but he definitely showed glimpses of talent. Normally with situations like these you can blame drug abuse or something external. But he seemed a good christian boy.

maybe he will learn to play like a big one day.

It is sad about Mullens for sure, I wish him the best, he shoots like Dirk when he is on but like you said he needs to hit the weights and then the boards.

This and many other similar scenarios illustrate just how hard it is to play in this league. Talent will only take you so far without hard work, effort and dedication to improving your skills. Blue collar guys who work their butts off but have less talent can make a career as a bench/role player. The greatest waste is the talented one who just won't put in the time.

Why? Could be distractions, and sometimes is, but it's primarily around character and individual personality. Some people are lazy, and just don't like to work. The early easy money exacerbates the problem for these folks. In some their first big contract sets off their lazy meter, and they are never the same.

In Mullens he always seemed to be a guy wanting to be something he's not.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Mullens doesn't bother me at all.

When you look back at all of the historically bad teams they are full of guys that contributed points to them, yet were out of the league a couple of years later. There simply always will be about 90 points for the taking and if you roll out 5 somewhat NBA-ready guys, they will get there one way or another. Just look back at all of the expansion teams we've had in Toronto, Vancouver, Miami, etc. and have a second to marvel at those surnames. Random dudes like Doug Smith also had huge games.

Clippers gave him a try and he evidently isn't good enough to play for a solid NBA team. It kind of reminds me of Michael Beasley (and, please, let's not stir this into a Beasley conversation, it's just a comp). If the guy can somewhat shoot and isn't shy about it at all, then he will hit those jumpers once in a while. Just like Beasley can go off on his inefficient long twos, Mullens will hit his threes from time to time.

Yeah, he has talent. But knowing how to play the damn game is also a talent. And Mullens doesn't lack one or two things like defensive awareness that still could be taught, he plays as if a 12-year-old was controlling him on a video game.

What bothers me will always be the undersized hustling forward who tries to find his place in the league through 10-day contracts and D-League call-ups, yet will always seemingly be judged because of some old draft report that judged him too small and made him a second rounder or even undrafted.

I don't feel sorry for Mullens at all, just remember at one time thinking he would make it in the league and amazed at the downfall.

He had some games where he looked like a really good rebounder and others where he blocked a few shots. he had 25/18 against Garnett.
just looked like he had the tools to do it.

but I guess you just can't teach dumb.

probably also highlights my crap scouting skills seeing how easily I got sucked into his hype at one stage.

We had to bring in Hairston to fill the chucker void. I think I will call him PJ "mini-BJ" Hairston.

Cousins gets invited to camp and then Mason makes it over him. Does not compute.

Cousins had several mini fits during the camp. Coaches don't like that kind of garbage. In one instance he missed a layup ran over to the wall punched it and screamed. Lol he still acts like a child at times. Can't have that stuff going on.

Plumlee also fits much better with K's defensive philosophy. Especially in international play.

Nah, I don't think that's how he rolls. He really cares about Team USA and Mason is young enough that he'll have other chances.

Heard that in a couple places but no one has provided a source. Where is that coming from?

Mason is a mediocre defender, don't see that as a good basis to pick him.
