Well Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson must be smiling ear to ear after Newtons deal. I think its a tad too much guaranteed money, but a majority of the deal is done in the first 3 seasons which will help us from a cap standpoint when the salary cap goes up in 3 seasons.

If in some alternate reality MLS became as popular the NFL; they would be paying higher salaries than 95% of European teams. The USA+Canadian market is larger than England, Germany, Spain, and Italy (Big four leagues) combined, so its not crazy to think a domestic salary capped league could compete salary wise with the Sevillas, Evertons, Bayer Leverkusen and Palermo's of the world eventually. Granted this is a long way off from happening if it ever happens at all. I'll settle for more competent youth development in the mean time. I have no problem with it being a seller's league for the next decade or two.

I disagree, the BPL just signed a MASSIVE tv deal, and moreover it has the benefit of an intriguing structure and a long history. Additionally, there is no salary cap- so the best played players in the world will be attracted to play there.

In an alternate reality where MLS is as popular as the NFL, the MLS TV deal would dwarf whatever the EPL is getting now. They'd be able to outbid all but the elite big 4 teams. I mean the NFL had a 133 million dollar cap in 2014 for all 32 teams that is higher than all but 5 EPL team's wage billl. This argument is pointless though because MLS won't become that popular for along time if ever. I just think if you were to open in free agency now you'd have a bunch of teams full of green card holders (count as domestic players) that aren't eligible for U.S. national team which is all I care about.

Curious what jdm3 thinks of the Cam signing. That was going to be my litmus test for the "Gettleman is going to run the franchise into the ground because he's so unlikable" position, and I'm quite happy with the outcome of that situation.

ETA: Guess I'll just page him with the quote function.

This is when an at function like some boards have would be very usual.

I think he got more than he has earned but some of it is on potential. The big upset was how much he got in guaranteed money. Most thought he would be between 40-50% and he squeezed out 60% practically. This means little to me in the long run because keeping a player slants heavily in favor of the team. Gettleman still is a hated person in the league and a poor guy to stick with as GM. Until he shows the ability to be a decent person to deal with we are going to be in trouble.

I'm just saying, apparently Cam and Olsen both thought he was a decent person to deal with, and Ginn came back to Charlotte so I guess Getts didn't scare him off. If going forward he continues to draft well and retain key guys on the team, I think that is pretty much all you can ask of a GM.

We are basically thinking the same thing (though I hadn't communicated it all), that the MLS (if as popular as the NFL) would be insanely popular - especially because it would attract foreign fans - but that it isn't likely to happen anytime soon if ever. Good point on the wage bill thing, I hadn't really thought of it that way though. I don't quite get what your saying about the green card holders counting as domestic players. In order to play on a national team you have to be a citizen of the nation and lived in it for 5 continuous years (if not already American).......

You keep saying Gent is hated, and keep citing articles that I have never seen nor read about him. You have mentioned the Jordan Gross thing, when Gross himself cited that he didn't feel he was fit enough for one more year (http://mmqb.si.com/2014/07/29/jordan-gr ... -panthers/).

Gross was coming to work for the media department so saying Gettlman is a prick and I would not play for him if my life depended on it would be a bad idea. Many people at many times have said he would likely have been back if it were not for Gets.

All you have to do is go read. There are tons of articles on guys talking about the environment here after they left. A number of things pulled from twitter about comments from people who bailed. We get the guys who have no other offers and that is it. He is a terrible at being a face of management and it is easy to see that when you look at his track record. There is a reason he was shoved into a back corner in NYG offices and not allowed near other people.

I hate teenagers. My little sister is 16, and she is a complete disrespectful bitch.

The MLB draft is very uninteresting. I tried to watch some tonight but you just don't know any of the high school kids.

I am not sure my heart has every beaten as fast as when my wife called me to tell me someone ran her and my infant daughter off the road. Both were fine but there was no way I could calm down until I got there and saw and held them.
