We might as well bring him up after the trade deadline and see what we have. Just have LaMelo run and gun with the young guys and lots of scoring and dunks, but also the worst defense in NBA history and lose often. Clifford would have an brain hemorrhage though.
I don't support domestic violence. Thanks Miles

It's the inconsistent effort that's baffling. I mentioned in my previous write-ups of watching the Swarm that he is engaged when the ball is right in front of him on both ends of the floor. It's the off-ball stuff that's a complete train wreck. Getting back on defense after turnovers or rebounds, getting caught ball watching, not moving on offense or taking plays off by standing in the corner. Put the ball in his hands and all of a sudden the light comes on and the energy comes back. Put the ball in the hands of the guy he's guarding and you'll see a three to five second Spurt of energy. As soon as his guy doesn't have the ball again he's back to being in la la land.

He's got the - that's not my problem - approach to the game rather than completely buying into being part of a five man team unit.

It seems to be an issue with a lot of young players, Jalen Green for example. He's just a much better offensive version of Bouk.

fun fact
the swarm have never had a winning season in the history of franchise (guessing the swarm have worst win% of any franchise) truly an abysmal franchise
101-200 = 33% win percentage

The Hornets‘ NBA G League affiliate, the Greensboro Swarm, has retained head coach Jordan Surenkamp for a third season, but the Swarm have a new general manager, per a team press release. Taking over GM duties is Cole Teal, who acted as manager of basketball operations and player development last season. Cole is replacing Cam Twiss, who is now a pro scout for Charlotte.

feel kinda like new ownership should be doing some organizational Swedish death cleaning, instead they are promoting Teal presumably because his name matches team colors?

While the Kai Jones situation plays out just wanted to mention...

Last month the Hornets quietly signed Nathan Mensah to an Exhibit 10 contract.
6'10 with 7'4 wingspan defensive specialist.
He is 25 years old, and played 4 years at SDSU; you might have noticed him in last spring's NCAA Tournament including their improbable run to the Championship game. Purportedly a serious young man and good student, who learned he had to work hard on the defensive end to see playing time. Kind of an Anti-Kai Jones. Two time Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year, the Mountain West being a conference where the Hornets have had good luck, finding Jalen McDaniels and the Martin Twins.

Maybe Mensah finds a role in Greensboro and becomes a dark horse for 3rd string Center with the parent club, at least as a stopgap until NNaji is ready? He's 25, an Exhibit 10, and has to gain muscle mass, but, really, at this point I'd rather have Mensah's defensive mentality and awareness around the roster than Kai Jones's undisciplined shenanigans on and off the court...

Mensah offers a skill set that may translate, able to guard all five positions, block shots and run the floor with an agile, athletic body. The NBA is a ball-screen game, and the 6-foot-10 senior from Ghana showed an affinity to switch onto and corral some of the nation’s best guards.

Seems like an easy kid to root for.

I a fan of Amari Bailey. Led that UCLA team with Jaquez on it really well at the end of last year. I think Amari is the type of player that fits nicely alongside Lamelo. Not sure why they bothered to draft him then absolutely bury him under Frank Theo Bryce Ish tho…I just hope that he continues to rip off games like this one until the parent team gives him an actual shot.

Just watched the highlights and I do like the look of Bailey. Give him a year at Greensbro and integrate him next year with the Hornets.
He's got a killer spin move and would look nice next to Lamelo. Not sure how the 3pt % is tho

It should surprise nobody to learn that the swarm appear to be an absolutely abysmal team again this season. Trying to build on their legacy as the all time worst gleague franchise. It's comical.

To be fair it's hard to field a good team when most of their best players are on Charlotte's bench.

Smith needs to head down there now.

All these draftees and the Swarm are regularly starting and playing 30+ mpg Jaylen Sims (25) Terrell Brown Jr (25) RJ Hunter (30) and Trevon Scott (25). And still losing. What are they doing? I don’t get it.

and I thought Charlottes defensive rebounding was bad, how easy Scott gets position for that put back is ridiculous.

The Hornets traded their 2024 2nd Rd pick for Garrett, so maybe they have plans for him?
Garrett, 25, began his pro career on a two-way contract with the Miami Heat in 2021. He played in 12 career NBA games for the Miami Heat during the 2021-2022 season. Garrett went undrafted in 2021, following a collegiate career for Kansas where he was named Naismith Defensive Player of the Year in 2020 and was a 3-time Big 12 All-Defensive team selection (2019-2021). The 6-5 guard has played in a total of 38 NBA G League games with the Sioux Falls Skyforce across the 21-22 and 22-23 seasons averaging 9.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game.
