I don't think we could have found a better guy for our locker-room.

He's a leader off the court with the player's association, he gives back to the community, he's from the area, he's close with a player we all know and love (Kemba), and he brings badly needed toughness on the court. He is a home run acquisition without even considering what he brings to the court (imo).

He's under contract for this year and the next three on a contract ascending up to $14.265 million by 2026/27. A long-term commitment so hopefully we can rehab his value.

Hope he does for us what Brooks and FVV did for the Rockets. Welcome home, Mr. Williams.

I wanted a vet who could help change the culture. Looks like we got one.

This dude will play hard every possession. Hopefully the team responds.

I really only take a few leaders to push the team into collective commitment. Brandon Miller is already showing it. Let Williams and someone else step up, and it becomes a movement.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

This is the exact type of player we need. Tough. Good veteran. Isn't ok with losing.

Seeing we're not exactly in the playoff hunt like his last team the "external advisors" might opt to keep Grant out of a few games to get him rested and healed up from whatever's ailing him.

That’s somewhat harsh, considering that in his first 16 games as a Maverick he averaged 10.3 points and shot 44% from 3-point range.

Williams obviously is alluding to his other 22 games, the ones in which he has averaged 6.5 points while shooting 37% from the field and 29% on 3-point attempts. What he failed to mention, until a reporter broached it, is that he clearly hasn’t been close to 100% physically.

https://www.dallasnews.com/sports/mavericks/2024/01/21/whats-happened-to-grant-williams-he-wont-discuss-aches-says-shooting-will-return/

Prior to resting three games in early December with a sore right knee, Williams started every game and shot better than 40% from 3-point range, looking very much like the 3-and-D forward option Dallas imagined for Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving. Since his return, Williams' 3-point percentage dipped below league average, and he lost his starting job to a number of small-ball options.

Per @espn_macmahon on the Hoop Collective pod, the Dallas Mavericks were "determined to dump him."

"They wanted to be out of the Grant Williams business, he rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. He switched from Luka's to Tatum's recently, his shoe selection."

Luka seems to have a lot of issues with teammates rubbing him the wrong way

Grant probably told Luka he had goat talent if he'd get in shape and that was it.

Personally don't mind at all having someone on the team that cares is a bit of a**h*le. Much better than the apathy we've had for so many seasons in a row.

Grants 1st game: 15/8 on 5-11 shooting

PJ's 1st game: 14/5 on 6-10 shooting.

We got an near unprotected 1st for swapping basically equally good players.

I still think PJ is a bit better but we will see how they both go in new environments.

Grant is a nice role player. PJ is a tier above and will probably have one all star season or something pretty close in the future.

Even if PJ is better, there is about a 0% chance he ever makes an all-star game.

I think PJ is more skilled and could be better, but for the role of coming off the bench, providing defense, physicality and defense, Williams suits so much more.

great get for us.
