In business this is so common, and not necessarily a bad thing. When you hire a complete unknown at a very senior level, so much can go wrong so fast. When the candidates with previous association were discussed in articles, I suspected Peterson would be the favorite, but I thought as GM. Likely he was willing to move for this role, but not as GM since he’d get that if he stayed with the Nets. Schnall already has a relationship, has seen his skills and abilities, and obviously trusts him to carry forward with their vision for the team. Hopefully his GM hire is strong, and I REALLY HOPE they don’t keep Clifford as coach based on past history. Big mistake.

Maybe they’d find a place for him within the organization apart from coaching (if he would want it), but his time coaching here should be done.

i also understand that as a new owner you need someone you trust under you. so, i do get it.

and its possible that our previous (and current) gms would have all be fine at their jobs with a competent owner. who knows what decisions higgins, cho and mitch would have done differently w/out mj in their ears, working w/in mj's rules, vision, biases, budget

I have talked myself into Langdon and was anti this guy simply because I want to get away from "Friend of" hires.

Him being PBO makes me wonder if Langdon is still a possibility at GM or if they're looking for more of an advisor kind of guy since Peterson is so young

Yeah Peterson is really young. He played AAU basketball with Durant.

Considering how well the Nets have been doing and are doing this year, this seems like a great choice.

Wonder who else we bring in to fill out the front office as we don’t have a specific “GM”

Ok so I haven’t been following I was thinking it would have been between Trajan Langdon or Elton Brand but I heard he signed an extension. But does anyone have any intel or expectations for this guy. I’m assuming you all will just let the coach finish out the season. Is lamelo going to be able to return so you can see what things currently would look like?

I have no idea about this dude, so I’m just going to be irrationally optimistic about him

fwiw the Hornets (finally) announced this hire today https://www.nba.com/hornets/news/charlotte-hornets-name-jeff-peterson-executive-vice-president-of-basketball-operations

“We’re excited to have Jeff join the Charlotte Hornets as the new leader of our basketball operations,” said Schnall and Plotkin. “He shares our vision, our values and our goal of becoming the premier franchise in the NBA. Jeff is a rising star in our league who is known for his player evaluation, his communication skills and his ability to develop strong relationships. His experience of having worked with multiple organizations and different general managers will be a great benefit to us. We look forward to working with Jeff as we continue to build our team and we want to welcome him to Charlotte.”

“I’m thrilled to be joining the Charlotte Hornets and I’m excited to get started,” said Peterson. “I want to thank Rick and Gabe for this opportunity and entrusting me with this team. I believe in their vision of building the premier franchise in Charlotte. Establishing a winning culture will take hard work, creative ideas and a collaborative approach, and I’m excited by the challenge ahead. The Carolinas are basketball country and Hornets fans are some of the most loyal in the NBA. I look forward to being a part of this community and experiencing that passion.”

Hopefully the new owners let Peterson do his thing and don't want a yes man like MJ did.

It probably means nothing, but he flubbed his interview with Ashley badly during the Orlando game.

Maybe (hopefully) he's just not much of a public speaker, but he sounded ill-prepared and spat out cliche word salad. Did not fill me with confidence.

Ashley would turn me into a stuttering fool too so I'm not going to judge him too harshly there
