But if I had the keys to the kingdom, I would have 1 candidate and 1 offer and it would be Bud because that ends all debates and raises zero questions. It's never not worked under Bud and that includes rosters that were probably over-achieving under him.

I also don't buy into the "x coach doesn't want to come here" narrative. It's the NBA, there are only 30 HC positions and each off-season only a small amount become available.

Bud is an NBA champion and has led 60 win teams. Trust me when I say he isn’t coming back to develop a young team to winning 35 games. He's going to a contender, very likely Dallas if they lose early.

I am thinking we need a fast paced offensive coach to get the best out of this team btw. Trying to make LaMelo Ball into a pick your spots methodical player is a crime against humanity. Make it run and gun free flowing offense. That’s why I wanted Fernandez from Sacramento, I love the Kings offense and for us it’s attainable. I really miss Borrego’s offense, we need another mind like that.

Nothing feels positive about this search taking so long with zero news

Locked On Hornets podcast says it “appears” the head coach finalists are down to JJ Reddick and Charles Lee. No firm source cited for this, but if they can get Lee I hope he is our choice.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

JJ might be looking for a big payday to leave his current situation.

I would be fine with either tbh

Another team where we see how important a good head coach can be is the Pacers. They brought in Rick Carlisle and paid 7 mil plus per year and now they are leading a playoff series 2-1.

I bet we spend less that half of that on a coach.

His podcast alone makes $$ let alone when he teamed with lebron. That's not including his espn money. You're right.

Anyone interested in Ham if/when he gets the ax?

My preference is Charles Lee and I thought he'd be attractive to the PE majority owners given that he used to work as a trader on Wall Street.

He said "yea"
Not "maybe" or "we'll see"

Honestly would be fine with JJ. Yeah, zero experience but he's whip smart, high profile, and not afraid to be brutally honest - light a fire under guys. This said, so much has so little to do with the coach. Mark and Melo play most of the season, Miller breaks out, we draft Sarr or Topic and they provide ROY #'s and whoever's coaching looks like a star. And the opposite? It's the opposite.

If it's going to be JJ he'll need good assistants with him, that'll be the key, and obviously staying healthy for once

He was probably saying "yea" in response to interviewing. I can't imagine we madeca decision and decided to keep it quiet. How would that make sense?

Just waiting for the perfect time to announce it.

Just before the draft lottery would be nice. Send him up there to represent us.

Agreed. Highly doubt we've made a decision and just aren't announcing it.

With that said, after the last hiring debacle they better be 1000% sure the coach is locked up before they announce.

Still think they might be waiting for one final interview with Lee. With Celtics in playoffs not sure what access they can get while in a series battle.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Redick appears to have some gravity with one of the NBA's top players. Doncic was all smiles. He's probably very good at interacting with the players. He's experienced every last in-game situation as well.

I think these factors may go a long way as this new front office narrows down to the finalists for the job.

I think Redick made the cut. Perhaps Lee won't grant a second interview until after the playoffs, similar to dreaded Kenny Atkinson (who's golfing early this year).

Maybe celebrity/fanfare adds a dynamic that puts Charlotte on the map for high profile free agents. I want Redick courting those names.

And maybe Redick/Lee are a hedge for Bud. The raised ticket prices cover a high paid hire.

I don't think we have a final decision.

It's all intriguing to me.
It has been written...
