Would be hilarious if we end up hiring Clifford as GM.

And not in a good way.

They should fire Clifford from the front office job he doesn't have yet.

I still like Jordi Fernandez with Jay Triano as lead assistant.

I actually think Clifford and a front office role is perfect for him. I think he's got a pretty good head on his shoulders in terms of player evaluation

They'll hire Clifford as GM and then halfway through next season he'll fire the coach and hire himself as coach again. Clifford always has been and always will be the coach of the Charlotte Hornets.

https://theathletic.com/4602257/2023/06/12/charles-lee-celtics-assistant-coach/

Lee was with Bud 9 years.

Lee, who spent nine years on Mike Budenholzer’s staff in Atlanta and Milwaukee, most recently served as the Bucks’ associate head coach. The Celtics showed interest in Lee previously while looking for a head coach to replace Brad Stevens in 2021. Though they landed on Ime Udoka at the time, team sources expressed a deep level of respect for Lee. He has also been a finalist for several other head coaching positions, interviewing this offseason with Milwaukee, Toronto, Phoenix and Detroit.

Lee, widely viewed as a future head coach based on discussions around the league, should be seen as a big score for the Celtics. Though they also are expected to lose several assistants to Udoka’s staff in Houston, including Ben Sullivan, they have given Mazzulla a pair of established voices to lean on in addition to the returning assistants. Mueller said Lee’s presence will lift up everyone around him.

I thought Clifford's recent press conferences were a dead giveaway that he was not coming back next year. He's been incredibly candid about the roster and the struggles of the team in a way that we haven't really seen from him previously. It wasn't quite Larry Brown level of throw the roster under the bus, but certainly wasn't holding back anymore.

Also notable. Lee is a former member of the Hawks.

Keeps the trend going.

Let it also be said that we gave Paul Silas an advisory Consulting role after we moved on from him and all that meant was he sat with his wife a few rows up From the Bench to watch games. I'm not sure he ever had an ounce of input after that. So who knows what these roles for Mitch and Clifford actually mean in reality.

wouldn't surprise me at all if Clifford's "advisor" role is basically just a contract resolution that keeps the team from having to buy out his remaining year(s). and no, I am not going to look up Clifford's contract details from last year to see if what I said has any relation to the truth. just spit-balling here.

Trilly Donovan (anonymous college basketball insider) says Charles Lee is the top candidate. He's definitely plugged in with someone here because he said Jeff Peterson was the name to watch immediately after the Kupchack news was reported.

Don't know much about Charles Lee or Chris Quinn, but both seem alright.
