*shrug* 17.5 PER isn't really as close to "average" as you seem to think... this year, for instance, it suggests that the average opponent to Murphy plays as well as Rasheed Wallace, the 11th best PF (who gets minutes).

I guess if he really has to be HORRIBLE then opponent PER doesn't show that. He's no Amare, in that sense (a stunning 23.3 PER allowed, his average opponent plays like Bosh, Dirk, or Yao).
