Good to hire the coach who won the '21 title and fire the one who won the '20 title!

5 year, 50 million for another recycled coach? Didn't they learn their lesson after Vogel?

Great hire.

Now being in some true veteran hard nosed defending/shooting roll players.

Suns aren’t done yet, I feel like with a good coach, more depth and a relatively healthy season with the big 3 to build chemistry, they can still legitimately contend.

Congrats Bud. Now just wait one season for them to fire you and get free money the next 4 years.

Anyone else think "Approaching 8-figures per year" is low?
Spoelstra 8/120m
Kerr 2/35m
Williams 6/78m
Kidd? - Think he was 4/32 but can't find anything new on the extension
Nurse? - $9m per
Pop - $16m per
Doc - 4/40

Sure, he probably doesn't deserve Spoelstra level lifetime contract but he has to be a tier above Kidd and Doc before you consider how desperate of a mess the Suns are in right now.

That said, not a bad overall fit for Bud since the Mavs job is off the market and SAS and Boston are probably pipe dreams for at least another year.

It said expected to reach 8 figures per year so will probably be around the $10m-$11m/season which seems about right.

Probably more than Nurse, Doc, Kidd but less than Spo, Pop, Kerr. The odd man out is Monty but we all know that was the worst contract given out

Well when they hire Booker's 8th-9th coach soon maybe they'll up the ante to $70M.

I don't know the actual rules, but I don't think so. Reminds me of when Larry Sanders left the team in 2014, was getting paid by the Bucks through 2022, but he was signed by Cleveland in the middle of that stretch.

Could be wrong on this, but I think the Bucks would be off the hook for next season. I can't remember when and who it was, but I thought I read somewhere that when a coach gets fired the team pays the salary at the yearly rate. It might have been something around the NBACA or something. They don't get bought out as in get paid in a lump sum.
If the coach then gets a job elsewhere, the team, Milwaukee in this case, has their total amount taken off the new amount.
So if the Bucks owed Bud less than $10m next season then they're off the hook.
If say a coach gets fired from team A and is on $10m and signs for team B at $6m on the next job team A pays the difference of the original amount, which would be $4m.

Fair but shans initial report said "approach 8-figures" which I read as ~9.5. Feel bud should get a premium over kidd and doc so 10.5-11 sounds about right. Doesn't seem like a a huge difference but that's a 10-15% delta which is significant

Great hire. Bud has a system and sticks to it. Expect the Suns to win 60 during the regular season.

A new coach isn't fixing the loser mentality from the big 3 and the roster is extremely unbalanced unless a miracle happens and vets suddenly want to take the vet min to sign with us.

Ownership is a joke.

I usually agree with Bill Simmons, but he said today that he wonders why guys will take the Lakers job and high churn jobs coaching KD, Lebron etc.

It's because these guys sign 5 year deals and then get fired after 2. Signing a 5/25 contract and then getting fired after a year and a half isn't bad lol.

From a Bucks fan to Suns fans: You gonna love Bud, pretty much immediately. Then the playoffs will come, and some people will start telling you that Bud is a regular season coach and his weakness is that he can't make adjustments in the play offs.
And (in my personal opinion) they are wrong. He can, and does, but some times he chooses not to because he believes in the benefits of a team sticking to the things they are good at and have been working on all year.

Excellent choice, enjoy.

He's one of the best coaches in the NBA. But he won't be able to turn back the clock on KD's body or balance that roster.

Bud's calling card is setting up a highly efficient system that puts players in positions to succeed both on offense and defense. It should be good for this Suns team that was incredibly undisciplined offensively all year which is why they were the worst 4th quarter offense in the NBA somehow despite having KD and Devin Booker on the team. Inexcusable.

Where Bud falters is he's slow to adjust in the playoffs, but I don't know if that's as big of a deal when you have multiple really high level shot creators who can make something out of nothing on offense when they need to.

Will they hire Ham as the assistant coach now?
Bronny will become Murray 2.0

James Jones better be planning his escape route.

Ever since Mat Ishtbia took over he's had someone in his ear who destroyed a franchise for almost a decade all by himself. Jones is just the guy who is in negotiations and the face in the public but he hasn't been making the major decisions since the ownership change.

He deserves better than being the FO fall guy when the ishtbia hits the fan.
If you'd rather see your team fail so you can be right
...you are a fan of your opinion not the team.
