"Ant Man needs some help"

Post#1 » by Cubbies2120 » Mon May 13, 2024 3:05 pm

Man, I'm confused by the new media narrative. A few days ago, I was listening to talking heads speak about the Timberwolves like they were the modern Bad Boy Pistons with their tough and gritty defense. Last night, they lost G4 to even the series 2-2. This morning, the same analysts are going on-and-on about Edwards needing "some help". He's got a DPOY teammate, an all-star teammate, a steady vet in Conley, a couple hell hounds in McDaniels/NAW... like what?

Where was this same energy when Jokic was playing with the following teammates? The same pundits complaining that nobody "stepped up" for Edwards last night were either going on tantrums about Jokic being "overrated" or not being deserving of his MVPs.

Not every thought about this series needs its own thread.

Someone from another board summed it up:

What more do you want for him?

Got the best shooting big man in league history
Mc better than KDaniels
4x DPOY
6th Man of the Year
Teammate of the Year

Nothing confusing about those facts. The Wolves defense is really good but the Nuggets played an awesome offensive game last night, hit a ton of tough shots in addition to having great ball movement. Ant played well on offense (though sort of streaky) and no one else was good.

If you're saying that, after a PO loss in past years, no one ever commented on how Jokic needs more reinforcements, not sure what to tell you.

It's the talking heads job to try to process what just happened last night, gonna be pretty reactive/over-reactive. Saying 'their narrative is shifting' is some water wet stuff.

Yeah nah hes got a ton of help lol. They’re just playing the world champions and MVP. It’s not gonna be easy and it’s not a sign you need to blow it up if you lose

Wolves got 3 all stars, a First team-all defender and good role players. Ant has plenty of help, why can't MJ's son get it done?

He needed help last night. Has a good team, but no one stepped up.

This isn't a serious question, is it?

KAT, Conley and NAW were so bad in that game that the Wolves basically couldn't win. Certainly not with Aaron Gordon shooting 11/12 and Jokic doing Jokic things, and with how Denver shot from 3.

All Ant needs is Wade/Bosh/Allen or Kyrie/Love or AD and he’d win more rings than the four Lebron underachieved to get.

It's gonna be hard to play a good as angry ant did last night. Make it miss league and Devner wouldn't stop making. That 8 point saying to close the 2nd was brutal. This is a tough ask for team lacking post season experience.

KAT needs to step up on offense. Dude should be dominating out there with his size, speed, and athleticism. He needs to take a look at what AD was doing on offense vs the Nuggets in the first round.

Yeah, you can say they have a pretty good team and that yesterday he was great but left alone, no need to overreact with every little thing.

This is it. This is a legit championship contender with a top 5 player.

Ant simply isn't good enough to take this championship roster last the defending champs. Because he's 22, inexperienced, and years from his prime.

The narrative CANT be that he just isn't good enough. Scoring the basketball isn't the only way to impact winning.

It's why Michael Jordans most impactful seasons, and playoff series were when he averaged like 33ppg as a play finisher, and offensive playmaker rather than a play starter and play finisher.

Ant is incredibly skilled as a scorer. But the game just hadn't slowed down for him enough yet, because he's only 22.

Minnesota is good enough, he isn't. And that's okay, he will be in a few years.

And before I get pushback "45/5/5! What to you want!"

45/5/5 was a better box scorer than 35/7/7... But Jokic was clearly the better player.

Stories get hits if they are about star players who are probably going to want to go to a big market. Laying the groundwork.

Wolves have a good team. Several players have done well in the regular season and playoffs. But last night, many had a bad game, and give credit to DEN.

What a hilarious take, that.

Ant's help on offensive end is vastly overstated...Jaden is an excellent defender but dude is still very inconsistent on offense...he has been bricking open looks from 3 and Nuggets are not sending help on Jaden at all. Gobert is elite defender but again offensively he is not exactly a positive player outside screening. KAT is probably Ant's best partner offensively but he also has some stupid games where he makes terrible decisions. Ant is also content with passing ball to open players when he is doubled and he has done a pretty good job in this in the playoffs so far. Not his fault when his teammates are bricking the open looks

People are so reactionary... These are two quality teams going at it, this isn't like some of the Eastern conference battles that are even but more reminiscent of JV squads going hard.

These be 2 big boys, ya feel me?

This is the correct take on this series, right here.

Exactly. lol. This is probably The Finals, and it’s tied at 2-2.

Edwards is probably having the best 22 year old series in history, at least a top 5 one.

Towns is GARBAGE. He is not a winning player at the highest level. Can he ever become that? Idk. But if he was performing at impact level of Murray consistently in the playoff, the effing Minnesota Timberwolves might win the title in a month. That’s basically unbelievable in the scheme of sports.
