I'd accept Durant in the place of Love, but ideally you're looking for a stretch 4 to play next to LBJ and Howard, and Love fits the bill much better. He won't play defense much better than Durant, but he can pretend better with his solid base. He's definitely got the range and I really love the rebounding he brings playing next to two other strong rebounders.

I think you really have to go 3/4/5 here. Size wins. If you scrape up the few talented big players, filling out the guard spots is going to be easy. Look how stacked the league is at the 1 right now. I mean, the Clippers just resigned Billups to play alongside the league's best PG.

This. LeBron also functions as a point guard in this offense and he can maintain his ball dominance next to Howard and Love.

LeBron is the best player in the league so he has to be in. Guarantees your team a lot of everything. Scoring, playmaking, rebounding, defense...

Kevin Durant is the best scorer. He'll fit with any team just fine. Plus he's not ball dominant. He can play SF/PF combo with LBJ or even SF/SG combo. They're both fast enough to the SF/SG combo. So that can give your team a great small lineup and big lineup at the same time.

From there you need to see what you want from your other star. Inside D? Pick Dwight. More spacing to make it a team that you can't help a lot on defense? Maybe Dirk. A game organizer that can defend and get LBJ and Durant in the best position? Chris Paul.

It's not because he's arguably the best player right now that he has to be included in any Big 3. I'll still have my assist machine + off-the ball pure perimeter scoring genius + dominant center combination over anything else.

Lebron is neither of that. He's a bit of all 3.

Great minds think alike bro. Love your team. But you're not a little bit worried about Dwight being a whiny bitch who demands the ball in the post even though he has no post moves?

marcus_misc wrote:Seems like that's the direction the league is headed. But the issue is that they have to fit together. Miami's Big 3, as talented as they are, don't really fit together as well as some other Big 3's. This is largely due to all of them being ball dominant and great iso players. Miami's halfcourt offense is atrocious but their defense and elite fast break masks that. I think the proposed Brooklyn Big 3 of Howard, Joe Johnson, and Deron Williams would fit together much better. That said, my Big 3:

Chris Paul - floor general, can score if needed, good defender despite size (lots of steals)

Kevin Durant - best pure scorer in the game but he sn't dependent on having the ball in his hands (great catch-and-shoot guy), not elite defensively but he has the length to give guys problems (ask Kobe).

Dwight Howard - best defensive player in the game. Will get tons of boards and protect the rim. Getting better offensively, but as a 3rd option he will do fine.

Give them a great wing defender like a Sefolosha and a stretch 4 like a Ryan Anderson and those pieces would fit together very well.
This should be the end of the thread that is def the best big 3
