When Anthony Edwards started working with Chris Hines, his player development coach on the Timberwolves, Hines asked what the rookie wanted out of his NBA career.
Did he want money? To just be a good player?
The first overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft, however, had his sights set sky high.
"He said he wanted to be the best shooting guard to ever play," Hines said. "I said, 'You know there's a guy named Michael Jordan?' He said, 'I know. I got to get him.' "
On Thursday, Edwards spoke to the Star Tribune via Zoom, and though he wasn't visible on the call, his voice betrayed the hint of a smile on the other end when asked about that conversation.
"I'm chasing my boy M.J., for sure," Edwards said. "It'll be hard, but I'm chasing him."

This is from last year’s Minneapolis Star Tribune:When Anthony Edwards started working with Chris Hines, his player development coach on the Timberwolves, Hines asked what the rookie wanted out of his NBA career.

Ant listens.
He wants to be great, but a lot of young players want that. But the thing I see Ant do is ask a ton of questions, then shut up and listen to the vets’ answers. His first year, he credited Ricky Rubio for his miraculous turn-around halfway through the season. Because Ant is impressionable, the Wolves have brought in players to try to be in Ant’s ear, like Austin Rivers and then Mike Conley, and expelled probable bad influences like DLo. Edwards says Finch coaches him harder than any other player, and Edwards loves it. Edwards sees the flaws he has, and he is determined to correct them.
I’ve watched a lot of basketball over the years, and I’ve seen a handful of truly great players. But it isn’t just physical abilities or in-game skills that make a player elite. Those rare players are different at a deep psychological level. I don’t know if Ant (or anyone) can surpass Jordan, whose mindset was almost pathological. But Ant is a very rare person, and I can’t believe I’m going to say that it’s not impossible for him.

Is Bradley Beal a sg or pg or sf????
Wasn’t he like 2nd for the scoring title a year or 2 ago??

You know, Ant is clearly winning this matchup. But I'm wondering how it would look if he was the one with no point guard to stabilize things and run the show.
