I'm not saying it was intentional but Hill was reckless in that.

There is not GOAT debate no matter how badly Lebron fans want there to be. That discussion will continue of course but nothing can erase the super teams and losses. The league is soft, it's never been easier for high usage players to put up counting stats. And the league is rigged. So how impressive would it really be if the NBA orchestrated another championship for Lebron? Let's say he wins this season. Nobody but his biggest fans will believe it's legit. Zion literally just bounced in an NBA game with a non-injury and people still question whether this league is rigged? It's a TV show. They want the ratings that will deliver the biggest TV contract they can get. How do they get it? Lebron winning of course. And it'll get all the right people talking and we'll have to endure these "debates" in perpetuity but anyone that knows ball knows another championship won't change anything.

Yea sure he was! But there are reckless plays most games. Hill was a player who was only in the nba and seeing court time because he was a hustle guy. He was just trying to earn court time. Nothing dirty about it and i don’t remember him having a reputation for dirty plays.

If Lebron wins an MVP at 42 which is 2 1/2 years from now he's not 40 until December over Jokic Luka Wemby SGA I'm calling bs on that. Unless he leads them to a #1 seed or something crazy but that's not happening. There's a better chance of him being retired by then than winning an MVP.

What was MJ doing at this age in his career?

But he's not performing at the same superstar level as those other guys. Lebron is still a top 10 player and is actually better than former superstars that are younger than him, which is admirable given his age but he will never sniff an MVP again, he just isn't that level anymore.

In deference to a point YogurtProducer used to chastise me earlier (quite correctly, at that)...

YogurtProducer wrote:Sure - but when someone posts a hypothetical what is the point of coming in here and saying "well it is not going to happen, so why even discuss it".

It is a message board - it is a fun hypothetical, that probably is not going to happen.

I guess we should either engage in the hypothetical or leave the thread alone, no matter how likely the event. It's no different than the weird team lineup hypotheticals we conjure, or projecting players forward/backward in time and all that other stuff. Just discussion, especially before the fireworks of the postseason truly get underway.

It could happen, it is incredibly unlikely.

I will admit, if LeBron James wins an MVP at age 42, he will finally and undeniably cement himself as the second greatest player of all time

The only possibility of this is for him to max out his Balco stats.

I think you can answer you own question by asking yourself when was the last time LBJ actually won an MVP, and how old was he when he last did it.........

Stop.

If somehow LBJ had an MVP season and led his team deep into the playoffs it was be unprecedented.

Peak LBJ is right up there with anyone else. If he manages to win an MVP in 3 different decades it is just over for anyone else.

What if MJ decided to unretire and he wins the next MVP award. What then?

Lebron hasn't had an MVP-worthy season since 2013. He's had some FMVP-worthy playoffs since then, but not regular season.

A guy lebrons size with his improved shot (people still don't give him enough credit or defense on) he can avg 25:5:5 for a couple more years. Especially since he handles the ball a decent amount.
The problem is those raw numbers will get less and less effective towards winning. For him to win mvp he will have to have a spike in output.

How much will it add to his legacy? An mvp definitely will, but if he's just putting up numbers not too much imo since he already is the points leader and probably the goat of longevity.
If he isn't your goat now, which he still isn't to a majority, then I don't see how a couple more seasons will change that. Championships and mvp will tho.

If he can pull off 1 mvp and 1 chip, I think it might get to 50% - 60% goat consensus

I am still waiting for you to post these stats, ya know, concrete evidence that actually supports what you're saying.

Lebron's defensive winshares and blocks per game are right where they were ten years ago.

What are you talking about? Two stats? How's blocks an advanced stat?
Most his advanced stats are half of what they are in his prime, vorp, ws, +\- , etc and below the other top players. I'm not gonna copy basketball ref from my phone, everyone can see the stats.
What do you expect he's 40.

If Lebron is so elite that his raw numbers translate to wins, how come him + AD ( who was the best laker this season and supposed top 10 player) + that team everyone thought won the summer trades should've gotten the lakers better than barely 8th seed.

Clearly a 40 year old Lebron isn't as good or efficient towards winning as mvp heatles Lebron. And there's a gap from the top players of today like joker. Why are we even having this convo.

He’s not just taking off plays on defense. If he doesn’t have the ball on a fast break, or if he’s not involved in the play at all, he will straight up do next to nothing on offense or even stay on the other side of the court. You’re playing 4 on 5 half the time when he’s out there.

Lakers are a 47 win team. He's their second best player. Why don't you think he's not a winning basketball player anymore?
