He wasn't making enough back then.

If I remember correctly the Bulls still paid Michael for the years he was playing baseball.

Yes they did. He would have had the same contract. He actually did have the same contract when he came back and resigned in 97 and 98.

People must be forgetting that Juwan Howard was the first player in the NBA to sign a $100 million contract.

I knew Webber signed some hefty contracts but didn't realize he made that much. On a side note just found out my friend dated him for a short while and said he was a super nice guy. She didn't know who he was at first and apparently he really liked her. I need to show her that figure lol...

Interesting to note that Dirk's new contract will put him up to 3rd on the list.

Kobe's new contract should put him right near the top right? His previous contract was 7 year $134 mil IIRC and his new one is 3 year $91 million.

Its not about that...its not even about what the Shaqs or Duncans or Kobes make...the problem is the Ilgauskas' and the Grant Hills and Jermaine O'neals. The owners want a way to get out from under those contracts (think NFL aka non-guranteed years etc) or to drastically reduce the maximum contracts possible to at least mitigate the damage when a player fails to live up even remotely close to their expectations.

The true deserving superstars are going to pay the price for it since the NBAPA will likely never agree to non-guranteed deals meaning reducing the amounts is the only real alternative. Either way, count on the NBAPA getting railroaded again like they did in '99 since the owners can hold out without a paycheck much longer than the athletes.
