Is Javale McGee a top 10 Center now

I was shocked that McGee was invited to the Team USA tryouts, even though I think he is a better center than Tyson Chandler. He did good in the Summer League and the last 15 games as a starter last year. What do you think he will average next year and what are his weaknesses. I say at least 15 points a game and 8 to 11 rebounds a game and 2 or more blocks.

The guy hasn't even started a good number of games yet in their career.

You general board posters laugh at the Gallinari to Dirk comparisons?

How can you even make an assumption like this when Javale hasn't even had a chance to show his stuff?

Anthony Randolph practiced with Team USA last year I believe. So is he one of the best forwards in the league now because of it?

Or maybe David Lee is a top 3 power forward since he was on the U.S. team right?

you deserve to be flamed in this post. however, McGee will be a very solid starting calibur big man in this league. But relax with these top 10 things. Ridiculous.

Just cause he has a few flashy dunks and blocks doesn't mean he's a top 10 center.

This is why Basketball in America is getting weak. People in America think a crappy player like McGee is a top ten center.

Just because you can run and jump does not mean you are good. McGee is not even a rotation player.

Holy crap, if he ends up averaging 15 and 8 from averaging 6 and 4, he should be in the running for MIP. Wait until the all-star break before you start considering him a top 10 center.

McGee, with basically no competition at the center position, was routinely yanked out of games because his 7-foot ass couldn't grab more than 2 rebounds in 20 minutes and 6-7 Singleton was inserted at C in his place. Pathetic. This is a guy who had one of the Top 5 highest standing reach every measured in the NBA Pre-Draft camp at 9'5, and can't play the athleticism card like most big men because he measured very well in camp.

IMO there's a way smaller gap between McGee and Perkins than there is between Dirk and Gallo. Dirk = HOFer, one of the best PF's in the game where as the C position is at an alltime low.

bynum, yao, haywood, perkins, marc gasol, howard, oden, cousins, lopez, horford all better than mcgee. his size and ridiculous athleticism makes him a very good prospect but the guy lacks simple foundations like shot selection and rebounding positioning. his post defense is ABSOLUTELY ATROCIOUS. not saying he wont get better but last season he would get pushed out of position or moved around like a little girl. if he improves his defense he could be something special.

I could name 20 or 30 centers better than McGee....and I'm a diehard Wizards fan.

The kid has a crapload of potential but as of right now, he sucks. He's a black hole on defense. He can't hold his position. He can't resist biting on every pump fake...thus the high bpg numbers. He fouls like crazy and he's constantly in horrible defensive position. On offense, he lacks a mid-range jumpshot. He doesn't have a hook shot, the only shot he makes consistently is a slam dunk. He thinks he's a point guard in a center's body so he usually takes wild, out-of-control shots that never go in. He is an abysmal defensive rebounder, albeit a good offensive rebounder.

He also lacks proper conditioning and gets winded easily. Maturity-wise, our team is forced to initiate a dumbed-down offensive system when he's in the game because of McGee's inability to grasp the team's normal system.
