The rest. And Bill Russell gets overrated here. His rings don't make up for the fact that he wasn't the caliber of player of others on the top 10, hell even the top 30. How could anyone in their right mind take Russell over someone like Hakeem to start a franchise? Crazy.

Give me Russell who never lost a Finals Game 7, won 11 titles, dropped 30 and 40 against Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, and Wilt Chamberlain. People can try and downgrade Russell all they want, but the fact of the matter is he stepped up offensively when it mattered and he was always amazing defensively. Leading your team to victories and towards a championship is the ultimate goal in sports and no one did it better than Bill Russell.

Not to downplay anything, as I believe Russell is definitely in the discussion, but don't forget there were only 2 rounds for at least 8 of his titles. I know people say it makes the league more concentrated but that is not true. You can look at the WNBA for that. When it was a smaller amount of teams it was easier to win. Houston Comets came in and won 4 straight right off the bat.

This just reminded me of the HOF induction ceremony this weekend when Cheryl Cooper was inducted. She was like the female MJ for WNBA. I'm surprised that league is still in existence and hasn't gone bankrupt by now.

Eras change but winning doesn't. Michael Jordan won all 6 of his titles in the 90's. Does that make them any less important than titles won in the 1980's or the 00's?

The 80s, 90s, and 2000s are close from a talent perspective. The 60s, not so much.

Actually, and argument could be established for the exact opposite. The league had less teams and therefore the talent pool was better which made it more difficult to win a title against tougher teams.

I personally believe that all the eras were special and that titles are titles. Winning them in one era over another shouldn't matter.

Assuming, LeBron and Wade are on the same team for their championship runs, wouldn't Wade be the GOAT since he already has 1 ring over LeBron and LeBron needed to join Wade's team in order to go for a championship in the first place?

If it was in order of dominance wouldn't Bill Russell be #1 since he dominated Chamberlain on a yearly basis and constantly went through Wilt to win championship after championship?

I don't think you understand. Wilt was drafted in 1959. From 1959-1966, the Celtics won 8 straight titles. It took Wilt until 1967 to win his 1st. By then Russell already had 8 championships since the time of Wilt entering the NBA and 1 more that Bill had won in 1957. Wilt didn't win his 2nd title until 1972, at which point Russell was retired.

So, when Russell and Chamberlain were challenging each other Russell won 10 championships and Wilt won 1. You can clearly see who was more dominant.

Hmm probably..

1a. Wilt
1b. Jordan
3. Kareem
4. Magic
5. Russell
6. Bird
7. Robertson
8. Olajuwon
9. Shaq
10. Kobe

11. Duncan/Malone

I think Lebron will finish in the top 10 before the end of his career. Durant and Howard have a chance to get in the top 10 too.

Lebron has been historically great up to this point. Reminding people who have conveniently forgotten hardly makes me a fanboy. Aside from Lebron being an egotistical dbag, I have absolutely no idea what I as a Heat fan, NBA fan, or random guy has to defend.

At this point in time, LeBron is no where near GOAT status. He hasn't accomplished anything of significance and it isn't inevitable that he will be in the conversation either.

Statistically, he's in very rarefied air. He led the least talented team in history to the Finals. Few teams have ever won 66 games in a season. Two MVPs before age 25. The only thing he has lacked is a title and he was aware enough to realize that's a team accomplishment and took steps to remedy that. I am a devout Wade fanboy, but some of ya'll's opinions on Lebron have lost all perspective.

If the Heat go on to win championships with LeBron and Wade, Wade will be seen as the GOAT because he already has 1 more ring than LeBron, and LeBron and Bosh needed to leave Cleveland and Toronto and join Wade's team to in order to win the titles.

So, if anything, in the future Wade will be in the discussion.

This is in order of dominance

No.

The order in dominance is a 3 way tie between MJ/Kareem/Wilt and the stats support it.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/blog/?p=3175

1)
Jordan, Kareem and Wilt have led in Win Shares 9 times each and the next closest is 5.
In the playoffs Jordan led in Win Shares 7 times and Russell 5 times. Those are the top 2 in the postseason.

2)
How crazy is it that Jordan led the league in playoff WS 7 times and only even made the finals 6 times?
I know it’s fully possible to play more games than either finalist without making the finals,
but still… Actually looking at the list again I think Jordan is the only NBA player to lead the
playoff WS without making the finals. And he did it twice.

3)
Some would argue that leading in WS in the playoffs is more
valuable (since deeper in playoffs you go the more opportunity you have to generate WS) - interestingly
16 (/58) times has the reg. season WS leader
also been PS Ws leader (MJ= 6 and Kareem 2nd with 3) - But
that player has been the league MVP only 7 of those
times (MJ 3 times, 2000 Shaq, 1983 Moses Malone, 1986 Larry Bird, and Kareem in 1980) - all
of those players went on to be finals MVP, except Kareem who was injured and a young
Magic rode Kareem’s efforts to the title and finals MVP.
