Top 10 Centers

Post#1 » by jazzfan1971 » Wed Jul 20, 2011 5:42 pm

Top 10 centers
----------------------------------------------
1 - Dwight Howard - I think this one is obvious.
2 - Andrew Bogut - Less obvious, injury concerns are an issue.
3 - Tim Duncan - Is he a C or PF? He's declining fast but still good for #3.
4 - Andrew Bynum - More injury concerns, but, has the ability to beast.
5 - Joakim Noah - Nice defensive center, gives you a lot of what you want.
6 - Al Horford - Is he a C or a PF? Solid youngish player with little negatives.
7 - Marc Gasol - Solid young big man.
8 - Nene - Solid player with terrific efficiency.
9 - Al Jefferson - Jefferson drops on injury concerns.
10 - Brook Lopez - Young, good size, lacks a bit when it comes to rebounding.

What changes would you make?
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Not bad. I have a problem with centers who don't play like centers. For example, brook lopez? He doesnt rebound and doesnt defend and doesnt play in the post. That's a center?

I know people will have a problem with Noah being listed at 5, but he is exactly the type of center you want. Hes an anchor on defense, he rebounds, he also averages double digit scoring, he's quick on rotations and quick running the floor, he's a good passer and he hits his free throws at a decent clip.

No Tyson Chandler? I'd give him the edge over your 8,9 and 10. I'd prefer Brook Lopez longterm over your 8, 9, and Tyson Chandler, but I see no reason for Brook Lopez to be mentioned currently over Tyson Chandler. Al Horford edges out Joakim Noah due to his lack of size, but I've always been a huge fan of Joakim Noah.

Marc Gasol and Brook Lopez are the sleepers who can only improve and who's stock will increase after the upcoming season.

u mean just like amare n aldridge.

noah is definitly not a true c.

hes more of a fc playing c for a team without a legit c.

center; on defense guy playing in the middle, anchoring the defense
offense; guy playing in the post or closest to the basket
classical centers examples; Shaq, Yao, Kareem, Tyson Chandler, Mutombo

Noah meets all these criteria, there's no case for Noah for being a PF.
Duncan play most of his minutes at center, anchors spurs defense and, plays back-to-the-basket;
that's a center too. Pau Gasol logs most of his minutes on center, and also plays on offense like one, he's also a center to me.

Horford can be counted as both skillwise, just like Gasol, but his skillset and size suggest he's rather a PF than C, playing out of position at times; just like Gasol is sometimes a PF playing out of position with Bynum on the floor. Amare can play center on defense; not like it's best idea- but his offensive game is not that of typical centers. He';s more a power-forward, his teams go small to make room for him under the basket but he's not starting most of his plays from the post, he attacks from triple threat quite a bit away from the basket. Like-wise I don't consider Bargs to be a true center atm; though he has physical tools to play that position. Anyway that's a label and it doesn't matter much for the game itself.

i'd take chandler and nene over noah. horford too if you consider him a C.

although good, i think m.gasol is a bit overrated. he's not a great rebounder and is slowfooted on defense.

after what aldridge did last yr, he should get some consideration for being reclassified. he logged a ton of minutes at the C position and battled against them night and night out because of POR's injuries.

Yes I agree, he has size and game of center. He's capable of playing both positions perfectly good, I would have no problem with classifying him as a center.

Noah vs Chandler....

Noah averages more blocks, more assists, more points, more rebounds, he shoots a better FT%, he averages less turnovers...
