Norris Cole may be a gem for the Heat

Post#1 » by Sign5 » Mon Dec 19, 2011 1:48 pm

This guy is a real PG, fearless and confident.Has great court vision and can hit the occasionally and is extremely quick. Not saying he'll be as good but I think it'll be another case where the big 3 makes him look decent.
Some of his highlights in the scrimmage at
.59 6:01 7:48 8:45 11:08 11:16 11:27

Scored 21 and 7 in the scrimmage and 8pts and 8 assists in 20 mins in pre-season against Orlando

The Heats perimeter defense is going to be absolutely nasty this season

Nothing wowed me about this guy.. You can show Chalmers highlights and he would look way better than this Kid. I'd rather see NBA game highlights than against each other though.

based on?..I thought it was already top notch. Norris Cole 6-1 174 shouldn't lock anyone down.. Maybe you should post this in the Battier thread or something

5 assists 0 turnover >>> 8 assists 4 turnover. Chalmers is also a better shooter. I don't really see how this kid gonna get much playing time to really develop, add to that Miami doesn't even really need a true PG, and you have to wonder why is the fuss among Heat fans. Nothing indicates he's gonna be more than a 15 minutes backup PG in the next 2-3 years. They just extended Chalmers who is better fit imo.

Great to hear the OP is grounded enough to admit Cole might not be as good as the big three.

He'll be the starter in 20 games. He's an actual true PG, which Chalmers isn't. He makes good decisions with the basketball that Chalmers doesn't. He can shoot, plays tough defense, and makes a good pass. He looks really really good. He was a little jittery in the preseason game I think, but he's one of those guys that knows how to throw a pass where a guy wants it. He was making perfect passes to Harris and Byars last night, and hitting them right in rhythm in the perfect position. Stuff real point guards do.

I think in him and Chalmers you have a nice little change of pace. One guy is a little bigger and more of a combo guard who can cause turnovers with his long arms. The other is a change of pace point guard who can get the team running, and will make all of the right plays on both ends.

Even if he ends up just average as a PG, that's all you need with the Big Three there.

Oh and I don't know that a highlight package really captures his game, because a lot of it is just simple things like getting into the offense at 20 seconds vs. 16. Making the right pass in the flow of the game. Good positioning on defense. So on and so forth.

With Cole you won't have a situation like we did against the Bulls last year, where CJ Watson was literally keeping Chalmers from even getting the ball to halfcourt. Cole should have no problem with ball pressure like that because he has a true point guard's handle.

Also dude just has a certain calmn coolness to his game. He plays like he's been there before for the most part, and that will only get better as he gets more comfortable with NBA life.

Good pickup for the Heat.

8 dimes and he hardly played with the Big3. None of you find it strange that the Heat's bench suddenly became productive after the lockout? LOL!

Norris Cole is better than Rio. Stop looking at stats and watch the games. Cole has outplayed Rio in the scrimmage and the preseason game. Rio shot better, but if you watch what's happening, Cole is the one that commands the court. His efficiency is gonna go up when he refines his shot selection and gets comfortable with the rest of the team. He already has great chemistry with the 2nd squad.

He's not as good as the Big3, but he's gonna make us a Big4. Bookmark this thread, because it will not take long to be proven right. Everyone in the Heat organization is raving about the kid, and not because they're internet marks. He's gonna be our Rondo, but he'll actually be able to shoot.

Also, don't look at measurements to determine defensive capability. Patrick Beverly wasn't big, but he could lockdown CP3. Cole isn't long in any direction, but he had one of the best times ever in the combine agility test, and was DPOY of his college conference. He's an excellent defender who guards Wade a lot in scrimmages. If you can guard Wade as well as he does, you can guard pretty much anyone. Taller guys will give him more trouble, but he's a PG and won't have to worry too much about that mismatch. PEACE.

doesnt matter. playing with the big 3 will marginalize him, regardless of how good he really is.

^ what games? I think you would be better served to reserve your judgement until after they actually play in regular season NBA games.

I think that Cole has the potential to be a player as well. He was an offensive force at CSU and I think that at least has some potential to translate to the NBA. Of course as a fellow Viking I'm rooting for the guy.

As a Heat fan, even I gotta admit this is a bit too much to be predicting after a couple of practice games. I saw him last night against Orlando last night and he showed he could either be a great play maker or a terrible decision maker.

Remember, Chalmers had a lot of hype being dubbed the next "Rondo" and look how that turned out.

I am a fan of his quickness and intense defense

Fine, I'll copy&paste the same post during the regular season. You guys act like you can't evaluate talent until they're in some intense firefight. His court vision, speed and control are things that translate just fine to the next level. Just wait until he starts getting heavy minutes with the starters. He's getting his numbers now dishing to Juwan and some summer campers. PEACE.

Just wondering if we should pull up some of those 'Mario Chalmers > Derrick Rose' threads from a few years ago.

The Heat are not exactly great when it comes to 1st rounders, but they have great luck when it comes to finding 2nd round/undrafted role players:

Udonis Haslem
Joel Anthony
Mario Chalmers
Rasual Butler
Marcus Thorton (traded to New Orleans, could have been a prearranged deal so cant really give them full credit for it)

Norris Cole and Dexter Pittman would be nice young pieces that could be role players this year

I don't think he'd be as great as a starter, or playing at the same time as Wade and Lebron since they create their own shots and like to handle the offense too. But he'd be great running the B squad. He was setting up great plays for the D-Leaguers and had everything flowing so smooth when neither Bron or Wade was out there.
