IIRC The posts from the 80's are pre-WWW so they likely came from University Graduate students who had access to their schools internet.

I haven't read through this thread at all.....but if this forum was still 20 or 25 years ago you would have had a ton of threads talking about how Jordan is overrated and only puts up eye popping stats because he is a ball hog.
I think the Magic vs Jordan debate would be a akin to Kobe vs Lebron.

This is a terrific thread, one of my favorites on RealGM for sure.
Just wondering something...so it looks like:
1) net.sport.hoops (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/net.sport.hoops) was active from November 83 through March 86.
2) rec.sport.basketball (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum ... basketball) was active from December 89 until around early 00 (though there's a bunch of spam).
3) rec.sport.basketball.pro (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum ... etball.pro) was active from May 89 on (and Patricia Bender still updates this to date).
My question is, was there a newsgroup that covered the NBA during the period between 3/86 and 12/89? If so, I can't seem to find it. A lot of these discussions are a very interesting read, and it would be nice to close the gap.

Now that's the difference between first and last place.

Tim H. Robinson knew what was up:
"Portland might not need another guard, but everyone needs Michael Jordon. The MJ vs.
Bowie draft, as well as the Cooper, Lever, Natt vs. Kiki trade, will
go down in history as the worst draft/deal ever made."

Remember when Kobe elbowed Jameer in the chin so hard Jameer was knocked down and sent skidding across the floor?

'90s "The Suns, Barkley, Johnson, Majerle will be the second best dynasty during the '90s behind the Bulls".
'80s/'90s "Robinson/Elliott Spurs will never get over the hump they are too soft, can't ever get past the Jazz, Suns, Rockets".
'90s "The Jazz will never get past the SuperSonics and Rockets, always loses in the WCFs".
"80s "The Pistons just can't get over the hump, will never get past Boston"
'80s, early '90s "Rockets are done, windows closed. Will never win an NBA champsionship. Hakeem aging, Sampson injury prone, career ending"
'90s "The Dallas Mavericks , and Denver Nuggets are jokes, lottery teams. They will never ever win an NBA title, Nuggets needs to be relocated out of Denver".
'90s "Small markets are done winning NBA titles. Spurs, Nuggets, Pistons, Cavs , Miami Heat have no hope. Bucks too will never win another NBA title. Relocate the Bucks out of Milwaukee."
'90s "Toronto Raptors will never win an NBA title, nobody wants to play up there in Canada".
'90 "Imagine if a crappy franchise like the GSW Warriors were to become a dynasty in the future? LOL Ya right!"
'80s "The Washington Bullets (Wizards) will soon return back to their glory years of the '70s! They just won an NBA title in '78 and almost another one in '791"
90s "Imagine if some mid/small market team were to become a nice. Some team like the San Antonio Spurs, Utah Jazz or Portland TBlazers lol ya right!"
'90s "The Portland TBlazers and Phoenix Suns are gonna win the West every season!"
'90s "The damn Bulls are always in the Pacers and Knicks way!"
'80s "The Bucks just cant seem to get past the Celtics or Sixers, dangit!"
'80s and '90s "The West is weak! East is stronger, deeper conference. Lets have a 16 team playoff with only the top 16 teams!'
'80s " The West is only the LA Showtime Lakers. Nuggets and Rockets are the only other good teams in that conference! Nuggets plays no defense!"
