Nuggets are the favorites

Post#1 » by colts18 » Mon Jan 23, 2012 7:45 pm

The more I see this team the more I think they are the favorites out of the West and probably the NBA. That team is so loaded with depth. Right now I would take Gallinari and Mozgov over Amare on the court. Plus Ty Lawson might be a top 5-8 PG right now.

Let's see how these guys perform when the pressure is on during an elimination game in the playoffs before calling them the favorites. Playoffs are a whole different ball game.

They are going to be a tough out for anyone in the West. I won't be surprised if we see a OKC/Den WCF.

I like the Nuggets a lot but I think you're going over board a bit. The nuggets are a very good team though.

The Nuggets rank 28th in the league in points allowed per game. They rank 23rd in the league in opponent FG% allowed.

Favorites to win the west? No.

They are flawed though. I don't trust anyone on that team consistently produce in the paint in the playoffs. Gallinari is the closest thing to a guy who can get inside

Having Lawson, Gallinari, Harrington for major minutes in a playoff series is a huge problem defensively

In general relying a lot on forcing turnovers and fastbreak points off the counterpunch is a bad strategy for the playoffs. DEN wins the turnover and points off TOVs battle almost every night. Bad teams turn it over and don't get back, not good ones.

And yes while "they don't have a closerz" is an overrated flaw, they certainly lacked that gamebreaking player last year while OKC had Durant

Most importantly, OKC is an absolutely awful matchup for them. They can match DEN's speed and athleticism to neutralize their advantages against 80% of the league, and are just flat out more talented in the halfcourt. If you replaced Durant with Gallo the Thunder would be as good as the Nuggets are right now

Denver's not the favorites for sure. Chicago, OKC, Miami are the favorites imo. With that said, they're probably somewhere in the top 8. And a big dark horse.

Really, how did the depth do in the last year playoffs?

Largely because of pace. Actually tied for 12th in the NBA in Defensive Efficiency, ahead of Oklahoma City, Orlando, the Clippers, and San Antonio.

Durant is the second best player in the NBA, and the Thunder are the favorites in the West. They aren't unbeatable though, as both front court play and Westbrook could deter them from that.

Denver will probably have to make a move at the trade deadline to be able to knock off the Thunder in a series. Denver really hurt themselves more with shoddy free throw shooting/a botched goaltending call, then by lack of superstar play tho imo.

They will win a lot of games in the RS with the depth they have and the way they play...

But once in the PO, when the game slows down and the absence of any sort of half-court offensive system catches up with them they won't last long.

I don't think they are favorites to win the west they are like the 76ers great team with tremendous depth who play great team basketball. They just lack that superstar player that is crucial in playoff basketball but I do believe like the 76ers they will be a very tough out and I could even see the winning a series.
