Brook Lopez: Whats he worth

Post#1 » by Scalabrine » Mon Jul 9, 2012 1:55 am

Brook Lopez averaged 17 points, 3.6 rebounds and .8 blocks per game last season in just 5 games due to a few different injuries is a restricted free agent. He is the main player in all Dwight Howard talks. He would sign an extension wherever he lands presumably. At this stage ive read reports saying that he is looking to be a near max level contract.

Pros:
Legit 7"
Great touch all around the court
No major injury concerns
Draws doubles
Just 24, many big men take a bit more time.

Cons:
Hasnt proven he knows how big he is.
Not a great defender
Poor Passer
His a bit slow for a lot of teams

All in all he has all the tools to be a Top 5 Center in todays NBA but right now hes Top 15 probably.

Recent Center contracts offered/given:
Roy Hibbert - MAX - 14.5 / 4 years
Kevin Garnett - 12 per/ 3 years
Tyson Chandler - 14 per /4 years
Nene - 13 per/ 5 years
Andrea Bargnani - 10 per / 5 years

Where does this guy rank? Is he worth max type Hibbert numbers?

His rebounding is not a con? He averaged less than FOUR last year, did he not? That's pathetic. That's worse than Bargnani.

He's one of the few players where it's very difficult to gauge his value. He's a good offensive player but his rebounding is atrocious for his position. He's probably worth anywhere from 10-12M/year.

Should tell Net fans.

I am all for trading Dwight Howard, but seeing some people try to argue that the Nets have a "good" package is a joke.

if miami replaced bosh with lopez (bosh was esentially Miami's center) they would have lost to OKC likely in 5 games. I honestly don't value much more than a chis kaman but give lopez slight nod due to being younger. but in terms of on court impact over the next 3 years, i think it's pretty even with kaman which ranks him around 15-20 centers range which means he should make about 4/36 Million deal.

Pop and Lebron are officially scrubs due to questionable rotations and passive play in crunch time

I actually feel his worst attribute is his rebounding, and you would prefer your center to be able to rebound. Also even if he isn't injury prone per say, the fact that he came off a very injury riddled season last season, will stick in people's memories, regardless of whether that is fair. i would do 10-12 million at most

Forget his numbers last year since the sample size is way too small.

At a minimum, Lopez is an above average starting center with good shooting skills but I wouldn't want to pay him the max unless I could somehow flip him to another team for draft picks. I wouldn't want to pay Hibbert the maximum either.

Whatever he signs for, Lopez should be forced to take his salary in Mister Softees.

Right, because when a star demands a trade to a SPECIFIC team. The other team tends to receive full value on those trades

Brook Lopez + Khris Humphries + 3 Draft Picks = Dwight Howard
Brook Lopez = Dwight Howard - Khris Humphries - 3 Draft Picks.
