D-Will: Felton better PG than Lin

Post#1 » by gethigh » Sun Oct 28, 2012 2:20 am

Brooklyn Nets All-Star Deron Williams said Saturday that Raymond Felton is a better playmaker than the point guard he replaced in New York, Jeremy Lin.

"I would say Raymond Felton is a better point guard than Jeremy Lin, in my opinion," Williams said at the Nets' practice facility.

"You'll have to see Jeremy Lin. He had a heck of a run. The numbers he was putting up were All-Star type numbers when he was starting, so we'll see how he does this year. But going off of track record, you know I'm going to go with Raymond Felton and Ray probably had his best year that half season he was there. I guess he likes the bright lights."

I don't see anything wrong with what he said, I'm sure ESPN is going to run with it and try to blow it up into something bigger than it really is.

Felton whooped D-Will's ass back in college when UNC won the championship in the Finals. It would be wrong for him to go and say that Lin is better after just a couple weeks of playing good ball.

True. And Felton was ballin hard for 17/9 pre all star break in the 10-11 season, so really D-Will isn't far off at all. Of course comparing more recent production you'd be inclined to go with Lin.

Felton and Lin are products of D'Antoni's system, D'Antoni's system made them look better than they're.
Lin put up better numbers under D'Antoni, in my option, Lin is just an average pg, and Felton is trash.

Forget Lin. Felton will prove this year he is one of the better PGs in the NBA. I like coach Woodson for him. He plays defense, can push the ball, get in the lane, make plays for his teammates, shoot it a little bit from the outside and mid-range.... tough minded player. Has a chip on his shoulder and seems to be in great shape. Deron Williams has respect for Ray with good reason. I like Lin but I don't love him. He's not a Knick anymore. Being realistic about the situation, he has a lot to prove before people say he's a better player than Felton, despite Felton's down year with Portland in '12. As a Knicks fan, I'm really excited and pleased to have Felton on the team. Kidd and Prigs off the bench, the Knicks are more than fine at the PG position. Could be their strongest position considering all 3 guys can contribute and play the 1 the way it's meant to be played.

All I could ever remember is Jameer Nelson WORKING Felton in the playoffs. He'll put up decent stats, but he doesn't impress me.

Felton put up great numbers last year without McMillan

How does that make you better than the Lin, Gallo, and Wil fans who root for them over NY?

Did you see that 30% of NFL players polled said that Tebow was the most overrated in the league? Players in any sport don't like it when someone gets hyped up beyond their abilities.

Lin might have won the money grab, based on two good weeks, but now he's got a huge bullseye on his back.

Harden will definitely help some, but every point guard who goes up against Lin will be working to expose him.

"Whooped D-Will's ass" ?

They both put up 17 pts, 7 asts in the title game. UNC won because the Illini had their worst 3 pt shooting game of the season that night yet were still a bucket away from winning the game with under a minute left.

All of this is simply one thing: Jealousy.

Lin produced on the court. The hype was deserved for what he did do during that time. It's not like he was putting up mediocre stats and losing games and getting undeserved attention for his ethnicity or something.

He wasn't just playing well he was breaking all-time records as well as winning. Dropping 38 on the Lakers. 28/14 on Dallas hitting shots in Dirk's face, etc.

Also that myth that Miami "exposed" him just irritates me. Do people forget his games AFTER that game where he played very well? If he was "exposed" then why didn't other teams simply shut him down like Miami did since according to most the magic formula to stopping him was figured out?

19/13 vs Cleveland the very next game
20/13 vs Milwaukee
19/7/6 vs Indiana
18/10 vs Toronto
18/4 vs Philly - 16 points in the 4th quarter

Not to mention it's likely he was playing with a meniscus tear for the latter half of the games last year.

Jealousy? Seriously? Why would DWill be jealous of Lin? No reason at all. You don't think that players know who the best are in every league?

Lin produced on a very high level for two weeks. Then Linsanity was over. You need to look more deeply into numbers of the games you've noted. His shooting % dropped from about .530 during Linsanity to about .420 in essentially one month.

That means he was putting up points, but much less efficiently.

We'll see what happens this year. With Lin and Harden on the same team, there'll be a game-by-game analysis on how they do on their own.

Fatty proved for a whole year he sucked outside D'Antoni's system. Lin proved he played well under both D'Antoni and Woodson and still has a whole year to suck as bad as Fatty before they are even considered equal. there's really no comparison

It looks like Deron is still butthurt that Linsanity only started because of him and his terrible defense.
