Re: The OFFICIAL Rookie impressions thread pt. II
watch him play, he's really smart and confident. plus tall guards that can play pnr and can hold their own on d are pretty rare commodities
would you have said the same thing about manu in 2003? already 25 years old, only putting up 8 ppg on okay percentages etc. etc. not saying shved's like that (he doesn't slash much) but he can def play

He's hyped because he's a 6'6" guy who handles the ball like a point guard, and guys like that get to the rim at will and succeed in this league more often than not.Goldtop wrote:Can someone explain to me the hype of Alexey Shved?
I've never seen him play, but I see him get mentioned on here as a top rookie, and see he is #3 on the current Rookie Ladder on nba.com. However, looking at his stats I'm completely confused.
11 pts, 5 asts, 3 rebs on 38% FG and 32% 3FG in 29 mpg. Whats so good about that?
5 asts is pretty impressive for a rookie, esp from the shooting guard position, but all the other stats are prety average to just plain bad (shooting %). Certainly not worthy of the 3rd best rookie ranking, imo.

Beal just logged 17 points on 7-10 shooting in 29 minutes. The John Wall effect is in full swing.

Even Jan Vesely is looking like an NBA player, lol. Wizards look like they flipped a switch.
Beal looks much better in those 1 dribble pull ups, that's a great shot to have and will open up the drives for him in the future.

Beal is patient and picking his spots now. Seems to know when he can and cannot get his shot off.
Wall is sure to get him 6-8 easy points per game at least going forward.

That looked downright comical. Like he was just casually dunking on a kiddie hoop.

Thomas Robinson slowly accepting his role and playing alot better.
Last 4 games he's averaged 8 points and 10 rebounds in 21 minutes per game - and admitted that he really tried too hard to be the guy who scores or does all sorts of other things - and forgot what brought him to being drafted which is hustling and getting rebounds.
Seems like this is a real turning point for him and it shows on the court aswell - his hustle and rebounding have been spectacular lately. Still has his struggles, but in general looking much much better.

I figured he'd have some growing pains out west. I think most DMV people here still root for him cause of his background story. I think once he gets a jumper down, he could really begin to show his worth. I still wonder how Cousins and him will begin to mesh. Cousins seems to be most effective down low, and for a relatively raw Big man T-Rob might be crowding the paint at times, then again I'm just assuming this, haven't seen many kings games yet.

Waiters had a really nice game. Seemed real confident in his shots, both jumpers and drives to the rim.

He was so incredible on the boards. Great to see from him.
