Walker and Lillard with Eerily Similar Stats

Post#1 » by James Gatz » Sun Jan 27, 2013 6:39 pm

http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/pcm_finder.cgi?request=1&sum=0&p1=walkeke02&y1=2013&p2=lillada01&y2=2013#per_minute::none

Despite their numbers being virtually identical (especially per 36) it seems that Lillard has gotten the bulk share of the praise between the two. It is true that Lillard is a rookie but Kemba is only two months older.

Either way great year for both guys.

Lillard is a better distributor, but Kemba is just lethal off the drive. I'd still take Lillard pretty handily.

How many elite point guards do you think there are?

Kemba's been fun to watch at times this year.

lol..if LMA and batum were traded for warrick and MKG at the beginning of this season would you really doubt that ut would be the exact opposite? both seem to have equal impact for their teams IMO

Looks like Walker's been significantly better. Lillard's had quite the overrated year.

per36 is 6.1 to 6.0 in the assist column so I'd say they're about even (Kemba actually has a higher assist %). So I'm biased, but I'd say Kemba is a little bit better assist man, especially when you consider the fact that Kemba has significantly worse offensive teammates to pass the ball to.

I'd also say Kemba is a better defender overall, while Lillard is the better pure shooter.

They're close enough for me to not be able to make a real decision. Don't think you can go wrong either way

I'm a Walker guy, but I'm not bothered by it - basically the difference between a rookie making first impressions after a below-the-radar college career vs a second year guy who everyone knew already coming out of college, coming off a bad (albeit lockout-shortened) rookie year. Lillard deserves his props for the quick adjustment to the NBA and the instant impact he's made. Kemba deserves some props for year one to year two improvement. The fact that they both have similar good numbers speaks well for both of them.

plus Curry and Holyday.
And then there are guys like Jennings, Lawson, Conley, Rubio or Lowry that i'd take over Kemba in a heartbeat.
I'd leave out guys like Nash, Miller or Calderon cause they're a bit older.

Kemba is also only 2 months older. But, we can't know for sure how Kemba would perform on a playoff caliber team. I'm sure we'll see down the line.

JJ Hickson has a PER of 20. Lillard is better than him, though.

I disagree. Rubio will most likely be better but of the rest mentioned Kemba has produced similar or better numbers while also being younger.

I'm shocked at how well Kemba is doing despite being doubled as soon as he passes half court most of the time. I really think if you add a Greg Monroe, or LMA, or a simlar post threat, Kemba would average 8+ assists. He has had the worst offensive frontcourt in the history of the NBA both of his seasons. Nearly all of assists this season have been going to other guards. It makes it hard to rack up assists when passing to another guard.

There are PC Board threads aplenty about Walker/Lillard.
