San Antonio Spurs ~ Boring

I don't get it. I firmly believe that people that say the Spurs are boring are just sticking to perceptions. Yes they played a slow pace in the early 2000s but now they play at a nice pace with exciting players. Anyone that says Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili are boring have never seen them play. Leonard also has nice athleticism too. I hope that a lot of the casual fans would just give them a chance and they would love their team. It's sad that they have this perception and no larger than life superstars to lure casual fans. They play fundamentally sound, runs at a nice pace, and has guards that can weave through defenders. Here's to hoping that people start paying attention to them.

People who are saying that are still fixed in the classic narrative that the Spurs are traditionally boring to watch. I've enjoyed them even before but they're a lot more fun to watch now.

They haven't played at a slow place for years. Timmy trimmed down a few years back and Pop has done a great job of limiting his minutes so he is still effective. It's amazing how they've gone from a slow defensive team to a more run and gun team.

They ARE boring. They are almost the same team since 2003, and they weren't that much different before as well since drafting Duncan and hiring Pop. It's incredibly boring to see them at the top for almost two decades with their undoubtedly professional, but very lifeless basketball. I'm still rooting for the Dubs in this series. It would be fun to see them in finals, and would be a meh to see the Spurs there again.

So because they are actually able to keep their best players and their coach for a very long time, they are boring? They're boring, because they've been very successful for the past 2 decades? The team has absolutely no selfish players, they have one of the most exciting PG's in the game, they have great role players, play unselfish basketball, move the ball incredibly well and they're boring, because they've been able to stay at the top for a long period of time... I'd rather watch Spurs play 10 out of 10 times than some iso minded team.

Its because they don't have any compelling personalities on the team. Their jerseys are bland, Popovich is the only one that shows emotion in games and several other factors.

Look, i love basketball and i could watch the Spurs play all day, but i can understand why people think they're boring. I mean, didnt the Spurs VS Nets Finals have the worst ratings in history??

Not true at all. They show emotion, they just aren't emotionally drunk.

What makes them "boring" is they play basic, fundamental basketball, live in an unglamorous city, have 2 foreign players in their big three, and don't start any controversy.

People who like basketball for what it is like the Spurs. People who are fascinated by efficiency like the Spurs. People who like theatre and drama don't like the Spurs.

I don't understand it either. They actually play very entertaining ball. Maybe it's because the years they won the team they ended up playing in the East wasn't great. It's most likely the lack of polarizing stars/storylines. I would take a Spurs/Heat finals over the other possible outcomes right now. Would be the best matchup.

They would need to be in a city that traditionally has blue collar teams. If their personnel was in Boston, they would be the envy of every fan. People would worship Duncan and Pops for their brilliance and their evolution along with the game of basketball. Their GM would get more recognition for keeping a dynasty. Everything the Spurs organization has done has been exemplary. However, I don't think the city itself is holding them back. Their fans are amazing compared to other cities (Atl being the main culprit), and they do have nationally televised games. I do believe that their series with Detroit really turned off the casual fans. They just simply don't care for fundamentals and defensive precision. Even when their Spurs adapted, casual fans and even some people on this board simply believe they are boring from their playing style. No one can say Parker is boring. The way Ginobili can carve through the defence and finish acrobatically is not boring. Their new run and gun style is not boring. Their players do show emotion. It's sad because it reaffirms my belief that not many people watch them play due to the notion that they're boring.

I love GSW too, and I thoroughly enjoy the young guns trying to take on the vets. Maybe they fail this year, but the torch will be passed down soon and we need to enjoy watching the Spurs and appreciate them for who they are. They play a great brand of basketball and as a fan of basketball, I hope other teams learn from the Spurs.

Sorry, I'd like to think one of the other 32 teams have a chance at a ring.

If I wanted to watch one team win every single year I'd be watching soccer and baseball. It just sucks to watch, they've had their time as a team. And it's the worst part of basketball.

I'd rather hope that a team can turn their fortunes around in about 4 years with good drafting to have a shot at the ring like the Warriors, then still live in a world of a team can tank their star out for a season, get lucky to draft one player, and that means they'll be the best team for 15 years.
