OKC not going to amnesty Perkins

Post#1 » by mattle » Sun May 19, 2013 3:57 pm

What is the point of OKC keeping Perkins? He is scheduled to make 8.9 million next year and 9.6 in the year after.

That is grossly over his market value. Does OKC really think they can trade Perkins? Or are the owners so cheap they don't want to amnesty Perk and pay somebody else to help the team?

Mattle how do you not know what Perkins brings to a team: championship metal, intensity and GOAT level defense. He is also coming off a historic statistical post-season campaign based on stats that are focused on offense.
Abolish the draft. Abolish the rookie scale. Make teams try to win.

Presti is sooooooooooooo overrated. Don't mistake that with him not being a good GM, but he's hardly this otherworldly genius he's made out to be on internet message boards.

I think they're enough over the cap where amnestying Perkins doesn't actually create any added flexibility. Amnestying him actually made sense when it was about keeping Harden. Now people just want to amnesty him because he sucks. Bennett doesn't want to go into lux tax terrority, so I don't think he'd especially value paying a guy to play for another team with no real benefit added.

Good for Presti not listening to these knee jerk reactions/detractors. Perkins was a integral part of the Thunder's season and they would fall apart without him.

This.

He had great drafts but the Perkins trade and the Harden trade have been awful moves. Refusing to amnesty Perkins instead of trading Harden cost them a chance to win it all in the next few years.

I wouldn't call him great at drafting either.. Is easy to draft when you're drafting top 3 yearly. I would say his biggest draft is Ibaka, other than that, he hadn't done much.

Only reason people even know this guy's name is because he came from the Spurs organization, other than that, he hadn't done much.

Maybe Perkins contributes a lot behind the scenes. Maybe he helps a great deal with the development of everyone else. It's a mystery.

I think it comes back to Bennet being cheap. this move wouldn't save him any luxury tax money since they aren't paying it. Even if they amnesty Perk, he'd still have to pay him. Plus he'd have to pay another roster spot. A team with cap room should offer to take Perk if okc throws in Lamb and Toronto pick.

I guarantee they wouldn't. I truly can't stress enough how off you are with that take.

Would Presti be rated as a genius if he had come out and stated he intended to ask his ownership group to spend 19M just so Perkins could play elsewhere?

They are idiots and they will waste Durant's and Westbrook's early prime years.

If Presti traded Lamb and the Toronto pick to get rid of Perkins, then he would indeed be overrated.

Perkins doesn't have to be removed for the Thunder to improve next season.

Don't Blame Presti Guys.

It's the Oklahoma owners. Everyone has a Boss, and unfortunately Presti took the fall for his.

Presti wouldn't Be the one choosing to do that. Just like I'm sure it wasn't his idea to dump Harden. Bennet pays the bills and can tell Presti to make trades for financial reasons.

No, this is wrong as well. If Presti asked ownership to amnesty Perkins because it would help the team they would pay the money. Presti will not ask them to do so, because it doesn't improve the team.

True.
This offseason is his chance to get creative, he has some assets from the Hous trade and a Toronto pick. I don't think Martin is someone they can count on, they need another bench scorer and preferably a new starting center.
