Would Melo consider Detroit with Smith, Rondo, Drummond?

Post#1 » by Laimbeer » Tue Feb 18, 2014 3:29 am

If the Pistons acquired Rondo to go with Smith and Drummond, would Melo seriously consider signing there?

1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

How would that work under the salary cap?

Terrible shooting team with only one scorer... I don't know how successful that team would be.

I don't think so, because after they trade for Rondo it would be tough to convince Melo to sign in free agency via the tax payer MLE versus the $26m max he could get from NYK.

Detroit's biggest problem is their lack of spacing because nobody can shoot, so logically, they would acquire Rondo.

Nah. Melo loves NY. I could only see him leaving to play with another established superstar.

They would need a two guard that averaged at least ten three point attempts a game and shot a minimum of sixty percent from three. Since that has never and will never happen, that team would be doomed to failure.

Also, how in the hell would that work with the salary cap? Melo gonna sign for the vet minimum or something?

I'd pay to watch Rondo, Melo & Smith on one team. This is better than the Boogie - Rondo combo.

Melo and JSmoove on the same team = Chuckfest.

Melo, Rondo and Drummond is an interesting trio though.

That's the catch. Smith would be key to resigning Rondo in this scenario.

The good thing is if we got Rondo and it caused Melo to sign as well, I think at that point just having Melo/Drummond would be enough to get Rondo to resign, and then we could trade Smith later if he doesn't fit. Which by then his contract woula be more tradeable.
