The parity between the West and the East isn't that big.

Obviously the standings in isolation give an idea, but don't paint a whole picture because we don't know the opponents or schedules, since the NBA schedules sometimes get set up in weird ways.

For example, considering the majority of the games the Grizzlies have left are on the road, they probably had a home heavy schedule recently for example (guessing), that gives you a slight winning boost, but they also did get Gasol back and have been getting good play from Johnson off the bench.

With a team like the a Nets though, considering they were just loosing before, any winning is a good sign.

Interesting notes about the Nets 7 losses:

5 were the second night of back to backs w/o KG for most
2 were the first night of back to back vs. OKC and GS

Luckily there are no back to backs in the playoffs.

I really wanted to see a Nets squad with Lopez go against Miami in the playoffs ... probably wouldn't have won ... but it would have been an interesting series for sure

Minnesota went 13-13. Mediocrity at its finest.

Historically Lopez hasn't played well against the Heat individually or team wise. In fact this year was the first time in 4.5 years they have beaten the Heat. Once with Lopez in game 2, once without in January. The 2 blowouts in the preseason actually gave the Nets some confidence they lacked IMO.

But how many of the wins were a result of playing against teams that were on a back-to-back? I think it probably averages out and impacts your W-L record both ways.

Not sure, but I remember reading when the schedule came out that the Nets had one of, if not the most back to backs in the NBA with 20.

Currently they are 3-10 on the second night of back to backs.

I expect the Nets to make a lot of noise in the playoffs even though we got off to a terrible start. Especially with KG and Pierce getting off minutes restriction.

Unless KG plays big minutes (which Kidd said to expect his minutes to be the same) or Collins or whoever really shores up our interior D and rebounding, I'm skeptical.

1-13 vs CHI, TOR, DET, IND, WAS this year.
4 are playoff teams in the East, all 5 start two full sized bigs and have killed us inside.
We were 14-5 against those teams last year in the RS. (Lopez is missed)

Chances are we face TOR, WAS or CHI in the first round.

I am actually quite shocked the Sixers have 6 wins since the new year. Everytime I look at the box scores, they are getting blown out by the 3rd quarter

The 4 game win streak we had from Dec 29-Jan 4 on our west coast road trip (Including at Portland :o ) is one of the most inexplicable things I've even seen in basketball. 3-22 since.

What about beating the Heat on opening night? What was it? 21-2 or something like that to start the game

They'd have to waive MCW if they won 3 in a row
