2014-15 Sophomore Breakout Players

Post#1 » by Brapman » Wed Oct 8, 2014 3:42 pm

Last year's draft class, overall, was one of the worst in history. But every class ultimately develops some very good players who performed "meh" as rookies.

Two guys I expect to be outstanding players from the 2014 draft class, but who were meh as rookies, are KCP and Giannis (I still refuse to try to spell his last name!)

I've been watching a lot of KCP - that guy's going to be excellent. He might already be. He'll share the SG position this season with Meeks - but he'll get 25 - 30 minutes per game (including some at SF). The game looks like it has slowed down for him, and he looks like a high scoring, excellent defensive player. In SVG's system and coaching, it's really setting up nicely for him as a breakout performer.

Cody Zeller made a huge step up as the season progressed last year. Hopefully he can continue that development this season.

Is it really a breakout if they're supposed to do it? It's their 2nd year.

I do think Dieng could be one of them this year.

Bennett's very talented, but his brain, -- man, I don't trust he'll get it, and I'm not sure he'll have all that much opportunity. The Wolves might well short-leash him.

Definitely agree on KCP. He looked great last night, very confident and aggressive. Van Gundy's system is perfect for him.

Not because he's french but if he gets a good amount of playing time I can see Gobert being a 8-10-3 type of player honestly

Len had another broken finger announced yesterday. It's going to be hard for that guy to breakthrough if he loses another training camp and exhibition season.

Dieng feels like he already had a breakout year, or at least couple of months. But him. Biggest question there is what do they do with both he and Pekovic? Somebody moving? Or do they think they can play them together for stretches? Dieng is mobile.

Steven Adams if the Thunder appropriately lower Perkins' minutes.
Tony Snell is a guy I like, but I don't think he'll get the opportunity with Mirotic and McDermott on the roster.

if Kanter doesn't show up again and Gobert gets minutes, he will definitely be up there in terms of what his stats were last year, and could be this year
