Ron Artest ran up to the guy, grabbed him, and asked him he was the one who threw the cup. The guy of course said no. Ron Artest didn't go up there and start throwing punches right away.

Can't believe it's been 10 years. I was just 16 years old, chilling at a friend's house and we were watching ESPN when we saw it break out live as it happened. It was bananas.
Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

Well I'm sure the team sucks etc. but it's eastern conference and you might want to take a look at the standings where Indiana is 8th seed at the moment

Bird just doesn't tank, at all. I expect their record to naturally drop as the season progresses. But like you said it's the East. Regardless, they are staring third stringers and rely heavily on the end of their bench.

Agreed, you have to have to feel good with what your team can do with a lottery pick (even if it's a high one) though given their track record. As long as he's not an idiot whoever you draft is going to end up being a good player.

And then another Detroit thug threw another beer at Ron and Jackson had his back.

I'll just point out - from your post - what Ron Artest did wrong. If you don't see it that way, just tell me what your reaction would be if someone "ran up to you" and "grabbed you" in the middle of an altercation like Artest did to this guy?

Again, Artest was the main issue in this whole episode. Detroit fans acted like idiots, players acted like idiots, is not excusable but it was all caused by Artest and his poor judgement on the court and in the stands.

Anyone trying to excuse Ron Artest or the guy who threw the cup is wrong.

Didn't Ron Artest make peace with the fan after changing his name to Metta World Peace? I remember reading something about that.

Metta World Peace Reveals He's Now Pals with Malice at the Palace Beer-Thrower

However, some good has apparently come from the brawl. World Peace recently revealed that he has become friends with the beer-thrower from the Malice at the Palace.
