The without Howard narrative for Harden is a bit tiresome. DMo is a better and more efficient post player and he can shoot 3's. Houston's team defensive ability can cover their lack of Howard inside and they went from one of the worst benches in the league to one of the best. They have amazing depth. Tjones, DMo, a revamped Josh Smith and Dorsey is still a pretty good big rotation. This is also not the same Howard of 3-4 years ago.

Not to mention Houston have an awful SRS for a 3rd seed, it's 7th in the west playoffs only ahead of OKC.

DMo is definitely a better low post player, shooter, and passer than Howard but Dwight is better in the other areas. Howard is still an elite defender and rebounder and that is what made him a superstar for years. He is also a better finisher at the rim. DMo has made huge strides but he is still only averaging 12/6 with a below league average PER. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

TJones has played in only 25 games this year and only been in game shape for about 18-20 of those. Josh Smith has been huge for them. Dorsey is mostly just taking up space and logging minutes.

Howard might not be the Howard of old but this team was built around the assumption that he and Harden would carry the team. Everybody was spouting how the Rockets would be screwed if either went down before the season started. You might be tired of the Howard narrative but Harden carrying the Rockets to the 3 seed without him is an amazing feat.

I know, I'm not saying that at all though. I am saying w/o Lebron, that team is still good enough to get in in the east.

cavs are 2-9 without LeBron.

If a loaded team like the Cavs can struggle that much without LeBron it really makes you wonder what the Rockets would be without Harden.

38-10 on 77% TS while playing great defense in the third (deciding) quarter.

so looks like Curry has this locked up!!! he'll probably be a minimum of 8 games above the closest contender in the W column.

question will it help curry in the MVP race if he beats his own 3PT record this year?

NBA has a short memory and loves recent narratives. It'll definitely call attention back to him and what he's been doing all season which folks have gotten bored of because it's so consistent.

He has a more than likely chance to break it assuming he plays all games. Playing only 33 minutes per the whole season. That is insane.

Barring a miracle, Curry has clinched the MVP.

The problem for the other three possible contenders is that they are going to split votes. Harden, Westbrook and James all have good stats on decent teams. There is no obvious reason to pick one of those three over the others.
Curry has good stats on a historically great team(that is below average when he doesn't play).

How does 33 minutes make it insane when he is taking over 8 3s a game?

Less time and opportunity while being the focus of the defense when he's on. And he's able to take them without hurting the flow of the game. He's able to pack all of that in 3 quarters posting a .620+ TS.

The guy is on pace to break his own record often not playing 4th quarters and without really chucking. It's literally never been done before. That's not somewhat crazy to you? Would you have preferred 4 quarters, less efficiency, and lots and lots of free throws?

You don't think it is insane that he is able to take 8 3s in only 33 minutes and make them at a high efficiency when the entire opposing teams defensive scheme is targetted at not letting him do that?

No I wouldn't consider it to be crazy and I don't think it's less opportunities. He's playing less minutes and taking fewer shots but he is taking more 3s than he ever has.

In the world of Steph Curry no. Lots of things that he does when it comes to shooting are insane. The original record was insane. But I don't consider this season to be more insane than the previous season just because he is playing less minutes when he is also taking more 3s.

Also, people try to act like Curry never gets good looks. Take a look at some highlights from last night and you see him with plenty of great looks from 3.
