would andre roberson get minutes on your favorite team?

Post#1 » by hardenASG13 » Fri May 29, 2015 3:25 pm

In watching the playoffs, cant help but think as an okc fan that there wasnt a wing in the western playoffs I wouldnt prefer over robertson, who starts for okc at the 2 ( or at least did under brooks). Would anyone else want his as your starting 2 guard, or in your wing rotation?

Pros: above average defender, runs the floor and finishes in transition. Also knows his (glaring) limitations.

Cons: cant shoot and doesnt command any attention defensively. Not a good ball handler or passer in comparison to other wings. Wont shoot when open.

To me, what he brings to the table doesnt justify pt on a playoff team.....would anyone else want him for what he is?

George Karl loves guys like Roberson, but I do not see the Kings giving up anything for him with their last 2 1st round picks being SGs, and honestly with the way the league is going he is not all that valuable. Teams want 3 point shooting, especially from a 2/3, meaning he is best used between a highly productive 1 and either 2 or 3, which is the exact set up they have for the Thunder.

Very likely. Solomon Hill isn't as bad a shooter as Roberson and has some other skills, but he was still a pretty bad shooter and got a ton of minutes for us (some of that was due to injuries, but he was slated to get minutes anyways). Vogel prioritizes defense and loves guys who give their all on that end. I think Roberson would be a rotation player for us, but wouldn't be starting.

He reminds me a bit of Ronnie Brewer, who had a decent career for a while.

But yeah, you want to be bringing a guy like Roberson off the bench when you need a few minutes of lockdown D. You can't keep a guy THAT limited offensively on the floor for starters' minutes, even if Durant and Westbrook are out there with him.

EDIT -- to answer the actual question, lol, he fits Utah's identity as defensively stout, but with Favors/Gobert on the floor together we desperately need everyone else to be able to shoot. So he'd never start for us, but might see minutes situationally off the bench as I mention above.

Casey would love Roberson. Would most likely even run some plays for him, while using JV as a decoy.

He's a good fit where he's at. Most teams don't have the luxery of starting a defensive specialist but it seems ok to do it there.

I like Roberson but don't think he'd get minutes on GSW... at least not playoff minutes. If he can develop a shot he would get a lot of minutes for any team though.

The Pistons were rolling out Caron Butler and Tayshaun Prince at the end of the season, we'd play Roberson.

Can he guard other positions? Like the 4?

Yep, he was a PF in college, plays 2-4. He's Dray Green w/o the shooting, and slightly less a defender (though still very highly rated).

Wasn't he one of the best perimeter defenders this year at some point.

If Tony Allen can start on a playoff team, Roberson can definitely get playing time.

Yea, OP is on a mission to prove he's terrible, and wanted to prove a point to the OKC board. He's kinda doing the opposite.

Roberson was the 4th best SG by DRPM this year (at 3.30).

Yea i was going to say it seemed odd. Roberson is a great defender there's no reason he shouldn't get playing time. Sure you'd need to be offensively gifted talent wise to play him on the perimeter or have a stretch big man, but the Thunder have both of those.

Athletic defender who can't shoot...yeah, he'd play.

A defensive lineup of MCW-Middleton-Roberson-Giannis-Henson would be insane. Absolutely insane. They'd be terrible offensively, but that defense would be god-tier.
