You know, the year before he was let go or whatever (I can't honestly remember how he left the team specifically) he was really one of the only steady players that entire season. He dropped off as the season went down, but his role got changed as players came back from injury too.

I mean, he certainly wasn't a superstar, but he brought it every night, and was definitely the best player on the floor for large stretches. Who knows, maybe he's got a bit left in the tank.

Yikes. Not a good thing for a franchise if Metta World Peace/Panda Lover is the face of your franchise

He wasn't as bad in NY as it looked. In fact I never understand why he wasn't used more. Not saying he was the same guy but Woodson would bring him in with the third unit, sometimes overlapping the second unit. He'd play for about 3 minutes get a board, force a turnover either directly or indirectly and maybe score once then Woodson would pull him out of the game. I know that based on his play in the minutes he got, he thought he deserved more.
He was very verbal with the young guys and I think that Woodson felt he was almost too polarizing and got scared it would eventually be a problem. Let's face it though. As crazy as he can be nobody will probably ever think he'd be polarizing in a bad way such as to allow guys to be lazy or not play tough.

It was one of those " your rep is too crazy for you to be trying to lead people especially at this stage of your career" and his brother was right he got shafted. From the outside looking in I'm sure fans and outsiders just chalked it up to Artest being Artest. He actually was a good guy here.

6 He loves the Lakers

I really don't see a downside. A couple fouls a game, some mentoring and maybe hit a shot here or there.

Lol, there is really no upside. Signing MWP has no benefit on the team as a player, anything positive he brings at this point of his career can just as well be made as an assistant coach or something of that nature. He's just going to take time away from young players on the team.

The season is long. Young players burn out and players get injured. Nobody is saying he will change the win column but he wouldn't be stealing minutes. It's still a game, we need players and we need vets. If it doesn't work out, we cut him. Give me reasons other than the mythical ..taking time away stuff.

This move is strictly to help develop Randle. This past summer Metta was playing pickup ball with the lakers at the laker facility and apparently he and Randle was going at it. As B-Scott called it they were bumping and grinding. He also said a few times Metta had bounced off Randle but that Metta was also getting him because he was a savvy vet. Metta is probably one of the few players that can match Randles speed and power. Also, Randle has been playing pickup ball with some of the clippers and Ryan Hollins said He was a beast. He said he would win Rookie of the Year but then he realized Randle does not qualify because he played in the first game last year.

Lakers have no small forwards
Or anyone that plays defense on the wings

At least artest has a reputation as a defensive player...
But he would be best suited at the PF now... Dude was slow last year he played in the nba, and can't be any faster now
