As for the West I might swap out Aldridge for Griffin, but it seems wrong to only have 1 player from the Spurs. Also if Kobe Bryant is going to be there for sentimental reasons, then why not Tim and Dirk?
Because the fans didn't vote them in...

If Kobe hadn't announced he was hangin them up, he would not had led all vote getters, and he likely wouldn't have even made the team.

Neither Dirk or Tim has come out and announced their retirement, have they? Did I miss something? How is this even a question?

It is not what the people want, it's just a mathematical SNAFU. Meaning the system has an inherente flaw that can lead to anomalies on a regular basis.

Meaning, I can predict that zero percent of people had a combination of Lebron, Melo, and George, but a great majority had 2 of the 3 in their voting, with one post player like Gasol, Bosh, Drumond, but since the SF vote was more cosistant, and the PF/C vote was more erratic, it leads to the least popular combination of players to be selected.

When they eliminated specific positions for generic ones, this was bound to be the outcome. It was inevitable.

Let's face it, fans vote for the "flavor of the season." They vote for their favorite player on their favorite team and whoever the pundits and media are talking about.

None of us have the time to watch more than a couple of games a night. And one of them will usually be our own favorite team or whatever the networks are pushing for the week. So we get our information from the media.

I agree It shouldn't matter. However, if you think about it one of the ways a player's career is judged is by how many times a player is an all star. You often see a player referred to as a ___time all star. To say it does not matter,is silly. As long as it is used as a measuring stick, it will matter.

I'm more OK with Kobe starting knowing that the alternative would have been Zaza Pachulia.

East teams flat out sucks and is full of old dudes being voted in for past seasons. LeBron and PG are the only two legit starting all stars on that team.

Sure, whatever you say bud.

I'd like to see voting changed back to fans voting per position.

To me it is far more interesting to see the best players at EACH POSITION rather than 6 guys at the same position.

The East SHOULD BE

Lowry
Butler
LeBron
Gasol
Drummond

Hell Melo doesn't even deserve to be an All Star.

The obliteration of centers is ridiculous. All it does is further serve to give young players additional reasons to not want to be a center. That all started with KG and his "I'm not a 7 footer crap" and the continued trend of small ball

Kinda ironic that the guy pushing for positions has Gasol as a PF even though he rarely plays there...

It should be 1 PG, 2 wings and 2 bigs I'd say.

Kemba Walker will not make it in but he should be in the discussion at the very least. 52 and 40 point game this week and similar numbers as Thomas but with better fg%

I used to think that the All Star game should consist of the best players of that season, but then reality set in after years and years of undeserving players starting. That is what the All-NBA team selections are for. All Star game is a meaningless exhibition of the most popular players, not an honor for the best players that year.

Do people forget about Vince getting voted in over MJ when he was injured for most of the season and barely played? Do people forget about the Chinese voters starting Yao over Shaq in '03? I can go on, but the point is that any pointless game where fans determine who plays should NOT be taken seriously.

Fan voting is a joke and is likely rigged by the NBA

Probably there should be a "classics" game for "career stars" who've slipped a bit. After Kobe airballs a 30 ft J... it's time to sit,let a deserving player play. The HONOR of being on the team? that's significant. Otherwise the 3 contest is often more fun. Dunk contest? Too few of the best dunkers are in it
CENSORED... No comment.

The problem is there's a dissonance between the nature of the game/voting and how it's considered as an achievement.

ASG appearances are considered part of a players 'achievement resume'. Heck, look at Anthony Davis, it's a prerequisite in his contract.
