Could Shaq dominate the game today?

Post#1 » by atlantabbq99 » Thu Mar 17, 2016 5:28 am

Could Shaq dominate the game and lead his team to championships with today's new rules? or would the triple teams of zone defense hurt his chances of dominating teams deep in the playoffs?

Or course he would. He was the most dominant offensive force in his prime in league history. Not to mention the fear his presence in the lane created. Shaq was pretty agile and had great footwork for his size, he wasn't a giant lumbering oaf or anything. In a weak era of centers he would crush his peers under the rim all game long

Shaq feasted on the Pistons and Ben Wallace, but on the other hand, the Pistons owned and swept the Lakers in the finals because of their zone defense.

Everybody in the NBA has now mastered zone defense. I think Shaq can still be very hugely productive, but i'm not sure if a team that featured Shaq could compete against the elite teams today

No. He's already 44 years old.

Shaq would literally dismember and defile the corpses of his opponents if he played today.

Shaq would dominate, but i don't see him beating the GSW. I actually see the GSW easily sweeping the Shaq lakers or Shaq Magic

Really? The '01 Lakers with Shaq and Kobe both near the peak of their powers who lost 1 game all postseason would get easily swept now? Good lord.

No. Him slowing the game down in the post would take away from the outside shooting needed to win today.

He may be successful individually but not as a team.

the GSW are like the perfect team designed to beat Shaq. The Pistons swept the Lakers and the GSW are like a super charged version of the Wallace Billups Pistons. the GSW would just lock down on all the 3pt shooter of the lakers and let Shaq get as many 2pts as he wants and the GSW would just jack up 3s all series long. so basically lakers and warriors would just be trading 2pts for 3pts for each possession .

Ya this. And i also think Green would be one of the perfect guys to guard Shaq. Green wouldn't shut down Shaq, but Shaq always says that the didn't like going up against smaller strong guys with low center of gravity

There would be no small ball if Shaq was in his prime today. Talent dictates style of play. Right now the best players are perimeter, so the rest of the league is forced to adjust to their style. Shaq would be the best player in the league right now though, and if he was dominating the paint all game every game, he would force the rest of the league to play big to have any chance.

Lock down? So they would let Kobe and Shaq go one on one? Because that would be the quickest way to lose.
