Does OKC have the best home court advantage?

Post#1 » by Peregrine01 » Thu May 26, 2016 1:08 pm

Watching game 3 and 4 of the WCF got me thinking this. That environment even looked absolutely INTIMIDATING. And I can't even imagine what it'd be like to play in there.

I can't think of any home court in history as hostile, loud and down right scary as Chesapeake. Can you?

because of the fact that they are the youngest franchise, their fans are still passionate about the team.

It's hard to claim a best since they're in the conference finals against the favorites, etc. Not every team gets that opportunity. They are certainly an excellent crowd though!

You must be too young to remember the early 2000s Sacremento home playoff games

Apparently the Raptors do if they play like such crap against Cleveland away but can win their home games.

It's either that or Cleveland... I can't tell if the Raps are playing like crap there or the Cavs are playing like the dream team.

I think Toronto's home atmosphere is the best, but OKC's is certainly up there.

The 5 best playoff crowds (in alphabetical order), IMO are:

Golden State
Oklahoma City
Portland
Sacramento (it's been a while, but when they're good, the arena is crazy)
Toronto

Honerable Mention: Memphis and Utah

All of those top 5 are pretty crazy

The real testament to OKC's fanbase is what happens when the team is not good? Since they moved there they have been a top team in the league so it's been very easy for the fans to cheer for them and show up to games. I do agree that their crowd is quite engaged, loud and rowdy but I'd definitely like to see what happens to their fan interest if/when the team isn't good.

Oracle is up there too. Makes it fun knowing the crowds at either Oakland or OKC will be rowdy for their teams no matter what. Reminds me of 2000~ Lakers. :'(

They had like .300 in their first year and it was still crazy.

Raptors have the biggest by far in these playoffs. They look like title contenders at home but look worse than Philly on the road.

I'd rank OKC slightly ahead of Cleveland then GS in 4th, but that could change from matchup to matchup or week to week so meh.

in terms of how a team feeds off their crowd in these playoffs it's the Raptors. Look how bad they look on the road

I second everyone who says raptors. That dysfunctional team just beat a well oiled cavs team at home 2 times in a row when everyone, including me, thought the cavs would win in 5 or less. Not only that, they have the whole 'Jurassic Park' thing going on outside the arena, which is pretty cool.
If they had a better coach and just 1 more 'pretty good' player, their fans could will their way to wins. As a matter of fact, I think that series is going to 7 games simply due to the game 6 advantage of the fans that toronto will have.
