While being able to shoot from beyond the three point line makes you a bit more of an asset in the D'Antoni system, it is not necessarily a requirement. Magic can still run the offense because of his court vision and ability to think quickly. The team would just need to surround him with two or three really good shooters and an athletic big man.

Raymond Felton wasn't much of one either, but he still had a solid yea with MDA.

Yeah, there's a whole lot more to running the system than just having the point guard shoot three point shots.

pg, if anything, is really the one that doesn't need to shoot 3s. he does need to be a threat to score and have good/great handles and vision.

It's nice if the point guard can hit the three point shot because defenses will sometimes sink underneath on the pick and roll. The offense needs to be able to punish them for doing that.
